Windproof but not breathable. Ideal for long runs.
I ordered an L (being a bit overweight with a size 44 chest) and after unwrapping the carrying pouch (marked as an L) I found an M waiting within. Expecting the worst I tried it on and found that actually it fitted very well so no need to raise a complaint. I'd still recommend erring on the side of an L if you're a 44in chest though.Since purchasing I've tested it on a few long trail runs (22km+, 5-10C, windy) and found the following:* very lightweight - it's basically nothing at all so don't expect it to keep you warm (rely on other layers for that)* very good wind resistance - solid 60km/h driving wind and only a long sleeved running top underneath and no significant temperature problem (ambient was 10C)* very good water resistance - solid driving rain and nothing go in (but did have condensation issues since it's not breathable - just be aware of chafe points for backpack etc)* effective velcro sleeve straps - can set so your GPS watch is showing and wide sleeves to work with gloves* effective adjustable hood - comes up nicely over a peaked hat (with headlamp) to protect ears and can be pulled hard enough to not inflate when facing into the wind* not too noisy - the material will swish but it's not like wearing a bin liner so unless you're out hunting it should be fine for most runners* packs up very small - can easily fit into a running backpack when not required* easy to clean - just chuck it in the wash with everything else, dries over a radiator in an hourFor the price this is certainly good enough for most people's trail running needs.

Great value for money!
I needed something lightweight, easy to pack and unpack, durable and breathable for my job, I was issued a very thick warm waterproof for my job but it was just too warm to wear and carry out physical tasks, this is not the first waterproof I came across however I'm glad I did, cheap in terms of money but very well made, totally 100% waterproof and wind proof! Breathable and does keep me warm enough by tackling the wind chill, I've used this on many occasions in very poor weather, once I'm home, give it a shake, excess water just falls right off, allow to dry for 10 minutes then pack away ready for the next use. Brilliant product that did exceed my expectations, I also use this outside of work on miserable days, I'm 6"1 average build, Large was ideal, I can wear this comfortably over jumpers, even thicker coats, it does have velcro wrists which is a nice touch, no problems there, and elasticated toggles to tighten at the bottom, also, no problems there, the hood is a good size, not tight around your head, the zip comes up slightly past the top of the neck stopping the water going down the opening at the top, easy to clean, some people wear this in the shower, give it a quick scrub and leave to dry, simple!Highlander has always made great products very affordable. This is my honest review.

lightwight hooded jacket at a competetive price.
As a keen all season runner, I need a reliable, functional and cost effective wet weather solution for road and trail running. The Highlander Waterproof Packaway Jacket seemed to fit my requirements, since its stated features included; an adjustable hood, breathability, wind and rain resistance, and a lightweight construction. In addition, the Highlander was (and remains so at the time of writing), available in various colours. At just shy of six feet, and with a 39 inch chest, I chose a medium, since I like to don a base layer, over which I sometimes wear a long sleeve winter running top. Would the Highlander Waterproof Packaway Jacket be up to the job?I had my first opportunity to try the Highlander on a weekday morning run under suitably windy conditions. With the hood adjusted via the velcro type fastener, ditto for the cuffs, jacket zipped up against the oncoming wind, and running gloves stuffed in the zippered side pockets, I set off. I was pleased to discover that the Highlander kept the wind out, thereby leaving me free to concentrate on my running. So far so good. At three or so miles, I began to notice a build-up of moisture on the inner surface. While not a big issue for me, particularly at this price point; I do understand that moisture build-up may be an issue for some. I unzipped the jacket somewhat, loosened the cuffs off, and completed my run. Total distance was five miles with gentle inclines. How would the Highlander perform in wet and windy conditions? I was about to find out; since on my next run, I was greeted by moderate yet persistent rain, and a boisterous westerly wind. As I started out down the long steep road, I was assailed by a strong wind and driving rain. Not a problem. With the Highlander fully zipped up, and the hood deployed and fitted correctly, one can keep the worst of the weather out-an absolute necessity on this particular day! I reached the bottom of the mile-long road; thankfully the Highlander was keeping the rain and wind out. I continued for the next two miles with the same results. As on my previous outing, I did observe a build-up of moisture, however this time it was less evident. Pressing on a further one and a half miles, I felt completely unencumbered by the Highlander. I continued uphill for two miles, after which I stopped to check the interior of the jacket. Zero rain penetration. Total distance was five miles; over an undulating circuit, with moderate inclines. I will provide further information in regard to the Highlander's wind and rain resistance, subsequent to further outings. Now some jackets tend to provide a somewhat noisy running experience. While not a deal breaker, the Highlander does emit a relatively quiet swishing sound. I make mention of this, since it may be an issue for some. As for the length; it has a scalloped back, which terminates at approximately mid-buttock height (although your mileage may vary). I have no main zip fowling issues to report, however I will provide an update should this situation change.Although I chose the Highlander for running on wet and windy days, I would have no issue wearing it for a trip to the shops. Moreover, I imagine that it might perhaps be a practical proposition for dog owners/walkers too. Finally, as a packable jacket with its own stuff-sack, it's a veritable no brainer for those requiring a lightweight, bag friendly, wet weather option. So, all things considered, I rate this as a very worthwhile purchase. That being said, I will briefly note the pros and cons of the Highlander Waterproof Packaway Jacket.Pros: Generous adjustable peaked hood, adjustable cuffs and waist, twin zippered side pockets, scalloped back, a variety of colours, rain resistant, wind resistant, lightweight, price.Cons: Moisture build-up, slightly noisy when running.I would recommend this jacket for runners, cyclists, and for those who like to have a lightweight packable wet weather solution.Suggested improvement: I would like the manufacturer to provide a wired hood as standard, although I do understand that such an addition may have to be reflected in the price.

Perfect budget waterproof
Finally had a chance to wear this jacket during a heavy downpour while in Scotland. Perfectly dry and no issue with condensation , unlike more expensive brands. Love the peaked hood which kept the rain off my glasses and could see perfectly when turning my head. The fit of the jacket is spot on with plenty of room for layering and for me the price is a steal for jacket this good.
