Sinestro 1: The Demon Within

The Best Series Of Sinestro Stories I have Read Yet...Unbelievably Good and Worth The Wait!
Sinestro is back and seeking redemption---or is he? Sinestro returns from his self-imposed exile, lured back into the fold by the tantalizingly sexy Lyssa Drak with news that isolated groups of Korrugarians somehow survived the destruction of his home planet. ***Spoiler Alert***A reinvigorated Sinestro forcibly wrests control of the Yellow Lanterns from its current steward (the formidable Arkillo) and immediately sets out to rescue and rehabilitate as many of his former planetary inhabitants as possible. The stage is set for our favorite antihero to begin his long process of redemption, but as is often the case with Sinestro things never quite turn out the way he intends them to. Nevertheless, Sinestro and his corps of Yellow Lanterns begin the long process of nation building with the Korrugarian survivors on a conveniently habitable planet nearby. Sinestro seems determined to avoid many of the mistakes he made in the past. Unfortunately, old habits die hard, and our tyrannical antihero remains determined to bring about order and justice to his new corner of the universe in his own way. His own people fear him--hate him actually--and rather than attempt to win over their collective hearts and minds Sinestro instead dismisses their protests and resumes his self-appointed role as savior and de-facto ruler of the Korrugarian survivors. Somewhat predictably, Sinestro views his new role as that of a shepherd tending a flock or errant, ungrateful sheep. My favorite bit of dialog in the story came when Sinestro crossed paths with Hal Jordan midway through the series. Neither Sinestro nor Hal Jordan were particularly happy to see one another, and after a few punches were thrown at each other for old times sake, Sinestro reluctantly agreed to listen to Hal Jordan's message. Jordan reported that the Green Lanterns would be keeping an close eye on Sinestro and his corps for reasons that were obvious to all but Sinestro. Jordan also offered Sinestro a few prophetic words of wisdom at the end of their dialog, which Sinestro predictably ignored. How dare Jordan lecture HIM on ethics and the dangers of reckless behavior?! Karma soon enough catches up with the Yellow Lanterns, forcing Sinestro to make hard choices that regrettably lead to pain, profound loss, and sorrow at the end of this new series of adventures. But Sinestro never gives up and will once again attempt to use his might to make things right! The stories within this volume flow together nicely, and are very well written. The art work is astoundingly good--5 stars in a 5 star rating system! One regret I have in this volume is that Sinestro seems incapable of patching up his former friendship with Hal Jordan, but perhaps too much water has passed under the bridge for a rapprochement to happen anytime soon. It would also be great if he could have some form of relationship with his daughter Soranik Natu---but I digress..This was an excellent read and I highly recommend it for any fan of the Green Lantern Universe who believes Sinestro is at heart a well-meaning megalomaniac who is tragically misunderstood.

If you love Sinestro you'd like it more then I did!
I love the spectrum of light int he DC universe. I thought Bunn did a good job here making Sinestro an anti-hero but I couldn't get into the art. I also didn't like the futures end comic or the 23.1. If it wasn't for those add ons this would be a 4/5

Maestro Sinestro.
The greatest thing about Geoff Johns’ revitalisation of the Green Lantern mythos was not just the emotional spectrum it was the development of Hal Jordan’s greatest enemy into possibly the most interesting and charismatic character in the DC Universe – Thaal Sinestro.Comics villainy is getting many a spotlight these days, Loki and Magneto having their own series over at Marvel and it is no mean feat writing a ‘villain’ as the ‘hero’ of title. This is not ‘ex-megalomaniac makes good’ but rather ‘megalomaniac finds focus’.I may not have kept up with all things outer-space since John’s left Green lantern but by no means have I come to this title uninitiated. There is a quality recap/framing device backstory here that serves well to update the lapsed reader and presumably informs the completely new reader enough as to the basic beats of what has gone before and who is who.Sinestro emerges from the destruction of his beloved home planet with a mission to draw together ex-patriots that fled that planet before the end – often due to Sinestro’s influence at the time- and create new safe haven for his people. With this mission in mind Sinestro retakes control of his yellow ‘Sinestro’ Corps utilising their power over fear to build a respect brigade rather than a terror army.He remains fixated and pompous despite the deflating points his daughter, herself a green lantern and even Hal Jordan himself make to keep him grounded.Notably more handsome than previously often depicted Sinestro does indeed make an intriguing leading man for our more morally-ambiguous times. The artwork throughout this collection is beautiful, clean clear and very detailed, from humanoid to monstrous the aliens are many and varied and yet the beauty of Sinestro’s daughter is equal though different to that of the more frightening Lyssa Daak. The Future’s End chapter wets the appetite for possibilities of what might be coming in this title and I really hope this is the beginning of a long period of front running for Sinestro If you have liked any of the Green Lantern wing of DC’s output since Hal Jordan’s ‘Rebirth’ and maybe even more so if you haven’t – I highly recommend picking this up.I’m pre-ordering the next volume straight away - now there’s a recommendation
