Deadly Class Vol. 7: Love Like Blood

The book that really is the gift that keeps on giving
Ok, so yeah I just got and read book 7 of Deadly Class, written by Rick Remender with just awesome and fun punk rock fueled art by Wes Craig, published by image comics. Now I'll just start this out by saying I love this comic and that it has been one of my favorite comics since pretty much it's first issue. With that being said book 7 just might be my favorite arc of the series so far, as it just brings so many situations the series had been building to a head and the whole arc is a chaotic and wonderful action extravaganza, which is in my opinion, just what the series needed as despite it's subject matter the book rarely gets too extreme and it's been a while since we got a blood soaked epic battle or even one with as huge of a scope of this one. This arc also kept with the series fun dark humor as we get some very funny Frank Miller references and odd yet wonderful death sequences, brought brilliantly to life by Wes Craig!

Plot armor meets Sensational violence : been there done that
This book is only just barely carried by exciting action sequences and interesting art renditions. Credit where it's due: Volume 7 is action packed. Any book that's not about supers gets a few stars from me - but Deadly Class proves, volume after volume, it's not ready to embrace why I care to read about it at all. There's no risk. No reward. The teenage drama is fun enough to excuse the regular tropes. And the super multi-ethnic representative-blah-blah cast is appreciated... But the story suffers for the frequent injections of exposition to explain characters who (for all I know) were introduced just to tick a checkbox. Layers of plot armor decorate each character as Remender stumbles to interpret what he wants to do with any one of them. They charge blindly through gunfire, stab wounds, and naked through the streets - racking up John Wick kill counts.I'm still waiting for these kids' comeuppance ; and as I close in on the finale, I'm hoping a named character or two or three goes down without just maiming one for a volume.

If you read previous volumes and liked them, you won't be disappointed
4.5 starsI really enjoy the series. This one has more fights and death than usual; therefore, it isn't as strong as some earlier volumes regarding dialogue and relationships. Art is solid.

Fighting to stay out
Volume seven in the series of paperbacks that collect issues of the comic 'Deadly Class'. A story set in 1980's America, involving a teenager who becomes a pupil at a school for trainee assassins. This contains issues 32-35 of the monthly comic. It is not a jumping on point. New readers should start with volume one.As ever, it contains copious amounts of violence and strong language, so isn't for younger readers. And the four issues are divided up by chapter pages, so you can see where one ends and another begins. The cliffhanger ending to volume six doesn't play out how you would have expected. Because something then happens which forces all the characters into a fight for survival. Despite a brief bit with Saya that explains a few things, the rest of this is non stop action and fight scenes as all the characters fight to live. And to make the right choices as well..The start of this does come, just for a moment, a little too close to looking absurd. But it deals with that. Thanks to a cool reference. And what follows next is just not only believable, but utterly amazing and page turning with it. Non stop action, fight scenes where you really feel the pain - as ever, they are realistic rather than gratuitious comic book violence - and an incredible amount of tension because you really believe absolutely anyone could get killed off at any moment. Death scenes [not a spoiler!] aren't Hollywood style either, as people slip away, shivering and terrified, others desperate to save them, all to no avail. It does have a strong character drama at centre as well, and a good moral strongpoint, as Marcus and a few others, as mentioned, do have to choose whether killing and violence is the right course of action for the moment, and for them. This really works in the writing. This is not the end of the series. And I can't wait to see what comes next. The volume ends with a gallery of covers of the comic issues, and a few bits of the original art as well.

You know what you are getting into at this point
at this point you've probably read every other issue of this series if not.... why are you reading this? volume 7 is just as interesting and disturbed as the rest of the series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this volume and had a hard time putting it down.
