VAR Triple Spoke Wrench

There are 3 different sizes of 14g spoke nipples: black, green & red. All bikes sold in a bike shop have wheels with red sized nipples. Bike shops can only get black & green sized spoke nipples. Because red-sized spoke nipples are not commercially available, when a wheel on a bicycle bought from a bike shop needs to have a 14g spoke replaced it ends up getting a green or black-sized nipples. As a result, it is common for bike mechanics to encounter wheels that come in for trueing that have a couple of sizes of spoke nipples. A mechanic trueing such a wheel has to switch between using a couple of different spoke wrenches. This one wrench will fit all three sizes and is the solution to the all-too-common problem of mixed spoke nipple sizes in wheels. In addition to being handy it is very light so your arm won't get tired from trueing wheels and has a hole to hang on a peg over your bench. Besides, every mechanic needs as least one VAR tool in his tool-box and this one is too inexpensive to ignore. It uses 3-sided openings instead of 4. The only other triple spoke wrench available is  Park Tool SW-7 Triple Spoke Wrench for Nipple Sizes of 0.127 , 0.130, and 0.136- Inch  but it weighs 45g. Since writing this Park discontinued the SW-7 and replaced it with  Park Tool SW-7.2 Triple Spoke Wrench Bike Wheel Spoke Tool  which weighs 65g. The VAR weighs 31g making it 48% lighter.

Handy little tool to have when wheelbuilding. I have used it enough to gauge the spoke size and line this up properly if it gets turned around in my hand. Seems durable, but that doesn't matter too much. It just works, and that's all I care about.

This spoke wrench does what its suppose to do when used properly. My spokes are closer than your typically bike so the width of this tool gave me a little trouble when I was truing my rim. Otherwise, great tool

Great little tool. Seems durable and is easy to use. Fits nicely in an under-seat tool kit.

Incorrect product description. Description states 5mm, but it is really 3.5mm. Returned.

You want to build wheels, or true your wheels, this thing is for you. You got a good grip, the tools grip tightly on the spoke and fits well on them do. Easy to work with and cheaper than the Park Tool's one, even if the quality seems to be the same as of now. I'ld buy it again if I ever lose it.
