Q: I understand the fragrances have a shelf life and deteriorate over time. Is this a recently made product?

I have Shalimar in various forms: eau de cologne; eau de toilette; eau de parfum, etc. - some in spray; some in splash. Some of the bottles I currently have may even be as old as 40 years (I only use the actual perfume on very special occasions!). There has been NO deterioration in any of them. Guerlain is one of the top perfume manufacturers in the world, and Shalimar has been one of their top products for a very long time. So trust me: if there IS a shelf life for this product, it’s more than 40 years!

Q: Is this the Original/Classic?

Yes. Shalimar also has the perfume- which is created with oils and is the most concentrated. Toilet Water is the next in concentration and Cologne the least (also the most affordable). I have found the Cologne to work just as well for me, but I like all forms as well.

Q: Is this authentic spray

I assume by "authentic" spray you mean is it the real item and not a "generic". If so, I can attest that the spray is authentic. I have used Shalimar exclusively since I was 16 years old (I'm 58 now). It is absolutely the "real thing".

Q: why does the page show a date of 2008 - is this the date it was manufactured?

I was spraying Shalimar on myself in the 50's. This particular size may have been announced in 2008 also they now have Shalimar "light."'
