Half-Marathon: You Can Do It

For walk/run half marathons
The book is an easy read, and offers sound advice. It offers insight to common injuries, and presents a challenge in yet doable set of goals. However, this book trains you to do a walk/run half marathon, as the introduction states.

Galloway is a God
I was given Galloway on Running nearly twenty years ago, having been a runner for a time before that. I found his combination of inspirational chatter and practical advice to compliment what I was already doing. This is more of the same. The specific schedules and advice are great. I also like that he encourages down time, walking and other things that allow for recovery and healing. I'm nearly 50 and the days of running on a broken leg are over. Still, I feel ready to tackle a half marathon.I can't say I like the glossy pages and colors used. Garrish. The one knock I have on Galloway books are their graphic design. A minor complaint.

Excellent Companion
I'm a beginning/intermediate runner. This book has been an excellent guide and reference. After running for a year-- with a 5 month break for an unrelated injury-- I'm planning a half marathon in a few months. I started reading this book on a recommendation of the Galloway run/walk philosophy. I started employing this in my runs and I have seen a major improvement in all areas-- pace, health/pains, and enjoyment of the run. I highly recommend this book and a consideration of the philosophies and recommendations it offers. The only negative is that it could have used a better editor and a better photographer/photo quality.

Great book. Good information.
Very helpful. I am a 73 year old triathlete and I ran my first Half Marathon this year, 2018. I finished in a little over 2 1/2 hours and ran almost the whole last mile. I finished smiling and in great shape. I plan to use the Run Walk method for my upcoming Half Ironman.

Okay
The book itself seems to be a little outdated. I’ve read other Galloway books that have updated Run Walk Run Run information so This book was not my favorite. I know you get what you pay for, but pages were stuck together so I couldn’t use the table of contents.

Loving this book and the lessons
I am training for my first half marathon and a friend told me about Jeff Galloway and I found it on amazon for really inexpesive and is well worth the read for anyone training for a half marathon or learning proper training and rest schedules. Have been on this training schedule since I started reading it and I have to say that it is working and is really intriguing to me how false myths I have learned and herd in all my years of running and finally can get some hard facts on the rights and wrongs for running and training.

recommended for all of you beginner runners
I love to just peruse this book a bit here and there, for how-to's with running. I am a runner, but not a REAL runner, if that makes any sense. So, I do it, but I am not great at it. This book has great little pep talks, and great tips on all aspects of the running game. recommended.

Some useful tips
I did my first half marathon recently and I'm training for another one. At 59 I'm reasonably fit but I do take walk breaks so I wanted to see how it works as a strategy. Some useful information but I was a bit shocked at the suggestion in the safety tips that you should deal with dogs by throwing rocks at them! Don't think UK readers will go for that idea.

as expected in good order
For the second hand book, it has been very good. I just wanted to renew my knowledge of running, as I have done before.

and so i turned to - the great teacher - internet
I started running a few months back to get into shape and few weeks into it felt the need for some advice on running techniques and some issues which i felt i needed to know about, and so i turned to - the great teacher - internet. I came across this amazing article:http://findingahealthybalance.wordpress.com/running/how-to-become-a-fat-burning-machine/the author had mentioned jeff galloway's : "Marathon - you can do it" and how she had been inspired. I searched for the book online and came across the book and this one (half marathon) too. A full marathon seemed like too big a goal (it still is), so i decided to get this one - the half marathon. Since the shipment was to be done from abroad (i guess) it took a little time (around 10 days i think) for the book to arrive. The initial part of the book deals mostly with motivation and running schedules which one should follow if preparing for a half marathon. Its the later part of the book which contains what i was looking for. which is: diets, exercising on rest days, troubleshooting, how to deal with issues like side pain etc. while running and how to deal with various pains and aches every runner is bound to experience during the different phases of running. the book is written in a simple and easy to understand format. some things are repeated again and again in various chapters but that is because the author wants to stress upon the importance of those things and wants you to understand them well. i would suggest this book to anyone who has started running, is enjoying it and wants to keep doing it for years to come. one can keep coming back to this book for advice and re-confirming things which one might want to check every now and then.I would also suggest people to go through the article, the link for which i have posted above. Running has been a very very rewarding experience till now... and my message to all those who are starting out on their journey to fitness through running is this: be conservative, start slow. there are no shortcuts.. but the rewards of sticking to it are lifelong!
