Biodynamic Farming
Written by the genius himself, Rudolf Steiner argues for a completely natural way to grow plants. Some of his ideas are esoteric and seems a bit "out there," but they've been proven to work. Growing anything biodynamically requires some serious labor intensity. There are wineries in France using these methods -- say, planting grapevines during a certain phase of the moon -- and their wines are considered the best in the world. Be prepared to be blown away. Steiner was way ahead of his time.

It's Rudolf Steiner
Steiner isn't necessarily easy to read. I'm reading this group with a study group so it helps. I also find when I read his work sitting outside in nature helps me experience his words rather than try to understand. Biodynamics is one of the most important practices of our time. It has the power to bring the wisdom back into the earth and the plants and therefor to us. I recommend Steiners work.

Was worth the read
We own a 22 year old vineyard and have been organic for over 6 years and now moving toward Biodynamic. We learned a lot from this book and the right way to do many things. It told us that we were doing things right and how to continue to move toward full biodynamic farming. I now am the proud owner of cows and will be following the outline in this book for years to come. Worth reading.

Interesting approach
This ag course is unlike any I have read. Since I am unfamiliar with Steiner's dogma, it was not an easy read but the book has a different approach and if you do the science, it can make sense (even though I might not agree with some things). I did find some surprising nuggets of wisdom.

Rudolf Steiner was one of the most aware and intelligent persons I have heard of
Rudolf Steiner was one of the most aware and intelligent persons I have heard of. We really need people today to read his works and take him seriously before we starve ourselves from malnutrition and ignorance.

Great read, if you have an open mind
This book is the translation of Steiner's 1924 series of classes that paved the way for the entire biodynamic movement. It is certainly not a "how to" guide. But it is a great read for people willing to go back to the roots of Steiner's thinking and teachings. For newcomers to the world of biodynamic farming, be open minded as you engage in this reading. You will read about etheric bodies, about the astral nature of plants, about Venus and Jupiter. Steiner was an absolutely brilliant man but he was eminently versed in the esoteric. There are many assertions in here than our current knowledge cannot justify. This annoys many people and if you're not prepared to get over that, it might be a painful read for you. If you are though, this might be the beginning or teh continuation of a thrilling learning journey. As a wine professional, I believe it is a key read. Not an easy one though. And probably not the most helpful either. But it is the founding book and as such should be read and if not understood, at least familiarized with.In any case, don't let this book deter you from drinking more biodynamic wine!
