Rage Powersports BC-6315-2Q Trunk/Hatch Bike Rack for SUVs or Vans

I was psyched to find a platform rack that appeared well made for this low of a price. Lots of well thought out features, problem was it came off the back of my VW van twice. With my bike attached to it! We were exploring around Moab on rough dirt roads and the top strap broke. $2000 mountain bike flies off. It was a big pot hole that made it jump off. Second time, I retied the strap and tried to make it as tight as I could. Another culvert in the road and again the rack and bike fly off the back. Again no damage to the bike, but rack slightly bent up. That's it, I'm done taking chances. Bike goes in the van. I may be able to use some of the parts and the locking arms to make something for the van. Vanagon's have a flat vertical rear hatch, maybe the design doesn't adapt too well to it, but I wouldn't take a chance with an expensive bike. I think if it had steel straps rather than fabric straps it might not have come off.

Clumsy and difficult to put on the vehicle. I haven't been using it since I purchased if that tells you anything...

easy to install and love the key locking function. Gives me peace of mind to leave bikes and rack attached when going in a store. Very secure when on the freeway...little to no motion from the rack so the bikes also do not bounce around! holds thicker cruiser bikes as well as racing bikes. mix and match! holds all types with the adjustable rails!

Very sturdy and works great with my mini van. Helps keep me and hubby more active.
