Great stereo for the price
I bought this head unit for a 2001 Wrangler TJ and was pleasantly surprised by the quality I got for $57, it's a pretty slick unit.I was under the impression that the stock stereo I had from the factory was halfway decent, man was I was wrong. With my initial sound test of this JVC before full install I was blown away by the depth and richness of sound, even from factory speakers, it's as if I had gotten an entire new system. I'm thinking the quality of the stock speakers is nothing to rave about but I guess with the right head unit sending the sound, they perform great. I could crank the sound louder than I would ever listen to it, fiddled with the stations to test antennae reception, and didn't get so much as a hiss or blurp of static, it was and is flawless. The uninstall/install was straightforward for me: Unplug antennae cable, remove two wire jacks, unbolt old unit from theft bar; install new stereo cage in faceplate adapter, install stereo into cage, attach two wire jacks, plug-in antennae, throw it all in the dash. Boom, done. Put all the interior panels back on and I was happy as a clam.My vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler and so I also needed a faceplate adapter and a wiring adapter. The wiring adapter I got necessitated some light soldering so if you're not into that you will need options; either have a shop do the install or see if perhaps JVC makes a pre-made adapter for your vehicle (thought I'm doubtful on that). I suppose you could also use wire nuts or wire joints but you'll have a huge mass of plastic when you're done and you'll have to find room in the dash behind the stereo for that mass.Overall the controls and options are good for me, YMMV. There are 18 station presets though only 1-6 can be set and then accessed easily through a pushbutton, the other 12 demand some menu scrolling to set each individually. To access once they're set you have to press a button repeatedly to scroll through all 18 presets, sucks if you're on #2 and want to listen to #13, or else press a different button and turn the dial to the preset. Not the greatest system but if you have your top 6 stations on the pushbuttons it's not that big a deal. You can also fiddle with the bass and treble settings, front and rear and side to side balance, or choose from a handful of preset templates which seem to have a good variation of sound settings. I've had the stereo in for only a day now so I haven't yet dug deeply enough to know if each preset station can have its own sound setting. There is also a little fob remote, even has a hole to hang on a keyring, and the remote has a wide range of capabilities. I don't really need the remote because in a Wrangler you're already sitting close to the dash so reach is not a problem. I guess I could see using it if you were outside the vehicle listening to music at the beach or whatever, but the remote is IR so you'll still need line of sight to the unit itself. The faceplate is easy to remove, press a little button on the corner and the face pops out just a bit, you pull it out on the left side and towards the steering wheel as there is a small tab on the right to hold it on. The faceplate fits in my underseat lockbox perfectly, or I could throw it in the dashbox and lock it up.There are two aux inputs, one in front and one in back. I attached a 5' aux cord in the back before install and ran it under my steering wheel dash panel which on my vehicle pops on and off quite easily. Eventually I'll run the cord to wherever I decide to mount my beat-up and ancient MP3 player and there will be that much less clutter hanging down the front, and if I ever want to attach an additional device I still have the front input. So, all in all I like the stereo, it produces great sound and I didn't have to replace my speakers too so money saved. I'm happy with the options and for the cost I don't feel I could have done better. Sure I could have gotten a double-din unit with touchscreen but for a Jeep that gets taken to the trails and mudholes it's perfect; if it fails or gets damaged I won't be out a ton of dough. This unit is bluetooth capable but only with an available BT adapter which plugs in the back, but for a trail Jeep I'm not missing the feature; I don't mind plugging in my smartphone using an aux cord, and for hands-free phone calls I use a separate BT speaker device mounted on my visor.Pros: Great sound, quick and easy install, understandable manual, enough features to keep me happy.Cons: Some soldering required (most if not all aftermarket stereos will demand this however), station presets after #6 can't be accessed quickly, unable to dim readout and control lights separately.

Best unit for the money. Great brand, quality and features. A+++
You can't beat this CD player for the money (~$60). I ordered this one because I have an almost identical model in my truck. Needed one for my car, and this one is the same unit without integrated HD radio. I honestly do not use that feature much anyways in my area.It is very simple to use. The controls are super easy once you play with the menus a couple of times. The unit has a very clean look to it which is what I want. I was not looking for a super flashy unit with 100 colors and dancing lights on the face. It also feels well built as the buttons and knob are not cheap feeling. Some of the units that cost 2x this unit feel really cheap. This unit is 20 watts RMS power. This is the actual output, not peak numbers. Many other units I have seen on here are 14 watts RMS. The more power, the cleaner the unit will play without distortion at a given volume level.Another great feature is a FRONT and REAR AUX inputs. You can use the rear input and not have a plug sticking out of the front. The rear input can also be connected to an optional Bluetooth adapter which is sold separately. It also has 1 pair of RCA outputs for an amplifier. The unit has an audible BEEP when you press a button, I find this feature distracting so it can be disabled in the menu. You can also disable the AM radio and rear AUX input in the menu if you don't use them. This way when you press the Source button you will not cycle through those as well. There is a 3 band parametric EQ which works pretty well to tweak the sound. It has preset modes for the EQ, but have never found those to be great. This way I can set my own. There is also a high pass filter which will cut the lower frequencies out to help prevent distortion. I don't use this feature however, just the EQ.JVC is a good brand and I really like my other one. That was why I purchased this unit. I had an old JVC unit about 10 years ago and this one is 10x the unit that one was. I will not buy some no-name brand or a flea market special. There are some of those on here for sale at similar prices.I have seen this same model for $20 more from a local reseller, Amazon is great as always.

Easy install, great oem replacement for the money
Needed a head unit to replace the broken one in my '93 Caravan and didn't like the idea of spending more on the stereo than I paid for the car. It's not flashy - no multicolored lcd screen - which is good for an oem replacement and it's basic in its functionality. JVC in general has better reliability than the Dual head units (personal experience, I had one and one feature broke a month - usb, aux input, and then finally the sd card reader) so figured it was worth a shot over similarly priced units.Couldn't be happier with the purchase. For the money, it'll do the job. Install was pretty smooth - I ended up getting the wiring manual for my car online and manually splicing all the connections. The car's old enough that a harness would have been overkill. I now have radio and the input jack so that I can listen to whatever I want for the trips to the bike trails.
