Outstanding product at great price
Updated Feb2015: Haven't had any repeat issues with the subwoofer and still really enjoy this system. I confidently stand by my original "5 Star" rating a year later.Belkin 25 feet PureAV Subwoofer Audio Cable. This is the cable I used because the included cable wasn't long enough for me--works great.Original Review Below:Looked at multiple other options and read the reviews prior to purchasing this system. Very glad that I made this purchase--great sound quality and relatively easy set-up. Comes with a microphone that quickly auto-detects and auto-configures each speaker in the room based upon your own specific room dimensions and speaker locations. Great for home video entertainment as well as music listening. It comes with speaker wire and a 10' cable for the subwoofer, which wasn't long enough for me (I later ordered a 25' Belkin PureAV Subwoofer Audio Cable that I will install later this week). I purchased ViewSonic PJD7820HD 1080p 3D Home Theater Projector (with HDMI, Dual VGA, Composite and S-video), VideoSecu LCD/DLP Projector Vaulted Ceiling Mount Bracket with 22.4-Inch Extension Pole - Black PJ2B 1C9, Videosecu 6 Black Universal Satellite Studio Speaker Mounts / Brackets for Walls and Ceilings 1UP (Black, 6 Pack)(which I had to slightly modify and drill small holes in the satellite speakers to install--okay but not ideal), "Soundsoul 24K Gold Connector Banana Plugs Open Screw Type 24 Pack" , and Elite Screens 92 Inch 16:9 SableFrame Fixed Projection Screen (45"Hx79.9"W). We've watched a few movies now and are thoroughlly impressed.Highs are clear, and the bass provides more than adequate thump to music and action scenes (car chases, explosions, etc.). Speakers are not solid wood (some kind of particle board laminate, MDF with a black surface coating), but seem sturdy and adequate for their purpose. You can plug an iPhone directly into the front USB to listen to music while it keeps your phone charged, and there are sufficient inputs for DVD, cable, etc. Includes antenna for AM/FM. There are more expensive and probably better units out there, but the features they offer aren't ones that I would actually use. This has exactly what I need and not a bunch of stuff that I don't, for a price I could afford.Only Con: This could have been a problem with the initial subwoofer setup because the cord wasn't long enough, but at some point the subwoofer stopped working. It was plugged in (with the right cable), but the blue light wouldn't turn on and no sound came out. I unplugged it, powered down the system, waited an hour, then came back and reconnected and turned everything on and it worked just fine. I have no idea what caused the problem and it hasn't happened again--hopefully it never does. I've given them the benefit of the doubt and still raited a 5-Star for features, performance, quality, and price.

Great product but wiring issue right out of the box
I love Onkyo products (this is my second home theater in a box I have owned from Onkyo) but they have a quality control issue that they don't appear to be addressing properly. The subwoofer on this system started cutting out and then ultimately stopped working about 20 minutes after setup. I thought it was a settings issue or power issue at first but I tested the RCA cable that supplies the signal from the receiver to the subwoofer with a multimeter and discovered it had little to no continuity. That is, the cable had a break in the wiring internally even though I did nothing but unfurl the wire and connect it. A new RCA cable fixed the issue.Out of curiosity, I conducted an online search and there are scores of people who are having subwoofer issues with similar Onkyo systems. Most of these consumers are under the assumption that their subwoofer is to blame, when in reality, it's probably just the wiring. I submitted a polite email to the company about a month ago and have yet to hear anything back.Do yourself a favor: If you are buying an Onkyo system, add a good 15-20 ft RCA cable and a 100' spool of some decent -16 gauge speaker wire to your cart. The wiring that comes with Onkyo home theater systems is cheap, thin, and obviously of poor quality.Another small thing that Onkyo has been doing for years that I do not like is the speaker connections on the back of the receiver. Unless you spend another $30 on banana connectors, the connections are awkward and difficult to secure.Aside from that, the system sounds great and is fairly intuitive to use. I purchased the UBT-1 Bluetooth adapter which was a nice addition to the system. It would be nice if they created a home theater in a box package using the completely wireless TX-NR626 receiver.

Sub Starting Emitting SMOKE!
I only used the sub a few times before it started making a buzzing noise. I unplugged it at the time and did not think much of it. Then I turned the sub back on a while later and had music playing. I came back after 5 minutes and the sub was SMOKING! There was a ton of smoke coming out of the front of it, quickly filling the room with smoke. The smell was a horrible burning of electrical components. I was terrified and I think this could have caught fire. I had to open all of the windows and the door in the basement for hours to air out the smell.I would like to know if Onkyo is aware of this problem and if I could get a replacement sub, this time one that will not start smoking!Other than the sub breaking and smoking up my basement, the product was good, but the fire hazard is a bit of a deal breaker!
