I recently was in a crew that built a handicapped ramp in which we probably used at least 1,000 deck screws. We put countersinks at the ends of deck boards and pickets to prevent splitting. These countersinks cut fast, so be careful not to go too deep. I also use Snappy center-finding bits to bore screw holes in hinges, and they are excellent for that purpose.

A bit pricy but it works great, I bought another name a while back, but the countersink does not work at all I push hardly but you even don’t see the sink
