Essential! Will always have this in my camera bag!
So glad I found this handy product through a photography blog link! A two pack of these for under $5 is a steal! The packaging is nice and thin, slid easily into my camera bag or day-pack, and I forgot I had them - until I needed them! On a trip to Paris, we encountered tons of rain, and of course it was on the day we were at the Eiffel Tower! The day would have been ruined if I hadn't had these Rainsleeves with us. We easily figured out how to fit it over my camera (I was using a Nikon D5100 with an 18-200mm lens) at a café and were back on our way again for the rest of the night. The Rainsleeve fits over the whole camera with a little hole that is pre-cut to fit over the viewfinder (you remove and refit your eyepiece to hold it in place). The other end is held around your lens with a drawstring. The bag is curved to naturally conform to your arm, and there is a lot of space inside for your hand to move around to the controls. Your other hand on the outside can easily move the lens, but the way I ended up fitting mine, it ended up being easier to leave part of the lens tube exposed when it was extended. (I wish the drawstring was replaced with elastic...it did get in the way sometimes). I use a Black Rapid RS-7 camera strap (which is another miraculous product worth every cent), and it worked fine with this product, but the Rainsleeves probably wouldn't work as well with a traditional camera strap (although you could probably use the bag "upside down" with the bend of it in the opposite direction. We realized we had inadvertently done this the entire first day we used it, with no real problem, there was enough surplus material that we didn't really notice). Even though the Rainsleeve was soaked the first night, my camera was dry (except the glass of the lens, which I will prepare better for in the future - make sure to have something to dry and buff those water spots!) We hung the Rainsleeve up to dry that night, and re-used it again the next day. I think we probably could have gotten one or two more uses out of it if we needed to, but luckily the rain stopped and we had the second one anyway. Keeping a nice little stock of these on hand for sure! What a great tool to have in a pinch - such a simple inexpensive solution to keep my $2000 set up working on our pricey picturesque vacation, even despite the weather! :)

Rain protection for SLR cameras
I bought this to protect my camera while on safari, except it did not rain during our trek. A year later I was finally able to put this to use on a trip to Iguazu Falls. It protected my camera from the mist from the falls, but I would not trust it in a heavy downfall. It is easy to apply to the camera, and I like that the part of the plastic that goes over the main body of the camera is not too long, so I’m not wading through lengths of plastic to find the viewfinder. The small size also makes it easy to carry in my bag. The plastic seems durable and reusable. This is a quality product. *This review was made in good faith based on my personal experience with the product. The seller did not request that I write this review, and I received no monetary or non-monetary compensation for this review.

Great emergency rain protection - Cheap insurance
A very simple and cheap solution that does just what it's intended to do. For a professional looking to go out shooting in rainy conditions all day, every day, a dedicated heavy-duty rain protection system would be recommended, but for 'emergency' rain use, these are great to have. I have been using the Original 18" sleeves on two different cameras when I go wildlife and bird photographing in the Florida wetlands, where rain is an unfortunate possibility almost any day of the year. Often I go for long walks far from shelter or cars and prefer not to haul additional lenses or bags with me, so I'll just bring the camera and mounted lens...these rain sleeves when folded up can easily slip into a back pants pocket and not even be noticed - just a few mm thick and no larger than a wallet's length and width. If I see rain coming, I can get the camera into the sleeve in under 30 seconds, tighten up the front drawstring, and work on mounting the eyepiece over the hole. Sometimes I just skip that step as I can still shoot with the viewfinder even through the plastic - depends on how long I expect the rain to last. I use this sleeve on a medium-sized DSLR with a Tamron 150-600mm lens, and it fits very nicely, even allowing the Tamron full extension at 600mm. I also use this on a much smaller mirrorless camera body with a 70-300mm lens, and it's entirely too big but can still be used in a pinch. I do wish they made a size in between their 'small' 8" model and original 18" model - something like 12" would be perfect for a mirrorless or compact DSLR with a 70-200mm or 70-300mm mid-range zoom.

Great in a pinch
These rainsleeves are a great item to keep in your camera bag at all times for using when unexpected weather hits, but know the limitations. This will keep rain off, but your camera can still get wet. Two things especially to be aware of: 1. There's a hole in the top of the bag - this is so you can look through the viewfinder. If you don't need this feature, I suggest covering the hole with tape inside and outside. 2. If you have the camera strap around your neck in the rain with the bag on, water will run down the camera strap/your jacket/hands into in the bag, where it will pool under your camera and likely do damage. Trust me, I found this out. I would never use this bag for this purpose again, but if you have your camera on a tripod or carry it in such a way that the open end of the bag is not exposed to water, you should be fine. Of course, remember that this is just a glorified plastic bag - it can rip, so be careful and inspect it before use. Yes, you can make your own waterproof sleeve from a plastic bag, but buying this saves you time and gives you the handy draw string that cinches the front opening over the lens. Rated 5/5 because the 2-pack is so cheap, there's no reason to not have one of these stored in the bag for emergencies - just don't expect more than the price tag suggests.

Great in an emergency but has problems
I have a Canon 5D Mark II which is prone to water damage so bought this rain cover because it always seems to rain when I go to the Renaissance Festival. Well, its raining today off and on and I'm going anyway, so I opened the packaging and pulled one of the two out. It's kind of like a plastic bag shaped to go over your camera and lens. I slipped off my eye piece protector and pulled the bag over my Canon 135mm F/2 L lens and placed the opening around the eye piece and slipped the protector on then pulled the cord tight around the lens end. It's got a nice little slip cord release button that makes resizing a breeze. Bingo, instance emergency weather protection. But I get it on and start using it and right away there are two problems, one the slip cord end over the lens hood keeps slipping back towards the camera, I ended up using some gaphers tape to hold it to the hood. The other problem is you lose the use of your neck strap since it is hanging out the end. You really don't realize how much you use your neck strap until you can't use it. Still I'm out in effiy weather with ominous looking dark clouds and I feel safer then without it. Ok now it's starting to rain and my fingers are really getting wet so I have taken leaving my hand inside the cover on the camera at all times which is easy to do since taking it in and out of the camera bag is a pain anyway and the bag is getting wet. Still I'm out in the rain and taking photos and no problems so far with my 5D Mark II. Pros: Easy on and easy off Very good price point You get two with each order! Keeps your camera and lens dry Cons: Lens end keeps slipping back down barrel of lens No place or hole for neck strap so you have to carry camera entire time. Conclusion: Get a pack just in case but don't rely on this as your primary weather protection.

This rainsleeve is great!
I orderered this not too long ago and got it in 4-5 days. I didn't know they had 2, I thought it was only one but to my surprise I opened it to find 2! And good quality.....great smell too (lol)! Yes, the plastic smells nice. I have a DSLR A230 Sony camera and the hole placed in this rainsleeve, I am not sure how to attach it to my camera, but it still works good (if you aren't too picky), I can easily see through it to take a photo. The way the hole was placed, it pretty much stays where you look through your camera with a bit of adjustment when setting it up. It fits on the tripod too. It's a little baggy since I haven't yet bought larger lens, but it still works well and I don't find it hard to use. The shipping is great, it came in a plastic package like in the picture showing how to use it on the back, for a Canon. I will definitely use these when the time comes to do so!

Really clunky but saved me $700 and did the trick
I'm from Southern California where it only rains 2-3 times a year, and at that only a sprinkle. So when shooting an engagement session in Connecticut a rainstorm popped up during the summer and of course I just kept shooting and ending up doing a lot of damage to my Canon 5d Mark III. So after spending $700 getting the camera repaired I bought some of these for an up coming wedding in Ireland. Sure enough we shot it in a rainstorm, and you know what? $6.50 cents saved both my camera's from another $700 repair bill! The thing is super clunky and nearly impossible to use. But the draw string makes it more functional than a plastic bag and helps keep the water off. For a super cheap quick light emergency piece of gear it's fabulous! I keep it in my bag all the time! =)

Deserves more credit than you might think!
Is this product really just a fancy plastic bag? Maybe. Is this product really cheap? Absolutely! Does this product do exactly what it's designed to do? More than likely I recently had an engagement shoot to do in an area of the south that tends to get a bit rainy in March. Fearing that thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment might be at risk of getting a bit damp, I needed to find a quick (and preferably cheap) way to keep it dry in the event that Mother Nature decided to bless us with some precipitation. I ordered these Rainsleeves (actually a set of 2) and had them shipped to the shoot location, ready for me when I got there, in case we got rain! Well....we got snow. Thankfully, it was the right move to order these sleeves, and my equipment managed to stay dry. My setup when using these sleeves was similar to the photo in the item description. I shot a Canon 7D with a 70-200mm f2.8 IS mkii and the rainsleeves had no problems accommodating the length of the lens. The sleeve stayed wrapped tight on both the lens and the body, and no moisture penetrated its defenses and got to my camera. The best part about these bags? They're completely re-usable. Since the engagement shoot, I've used the bags to shoot lacrosse games in the rain and baseball in the snow! They're easy to get on and off of the camera, and easy to move in and out of for quick shooting. I would definitely recommend that every photographer keep a pack of these in their bag, because you never know when bad weather is going to hit, and it's just nice to have the piece of mind that these grant when you know you've got a set in your bag. They fold down to near-paper thin, and are as light as a feather, so you'll never even know they were added to your pack! Pros: Lightweight Easy to Use Work great in a pinch Cons: Plastic can be ripped with enough pressure Not the most professional looking Could probably be just as easily replaced with a kitchen-sized garbage bag

Great for your expensive DSLR
These sleeves are big! While they do quite a nice job of protecting your camera they are a bit cumbersome and install is not as quick as I would like (you have to remove and reinstall the eyepiece). So far I only used one of them 4-5 times and it should last for a while. Even if they're not perfect, I'm giving them 5-stars because they take up very little space in my camera bag, last long and do a great job. They're also cheaper than most other options.

Great bags from when you want to protect yoru camera and still use it.
I went on a trip about 6 weeks ago. I wanted to protect my new camera in case it rained and while doing some trekking it started to rain, I unpacked one of the bags. It was quite easy to set up and use, and kept my camera dry. It was not torrential rain but it was steady rain. Easy to carry on any bag. Useful and inexpensive.
