Peter Tägtgren is a musician, producer and the creative brain behind both Pain and Hypocrisy. His has been a life immersed in music, in pushing boundaries, and taking ideas to both their logical and illogical extremes. It's been a career that has involved fronting bands as well as shaping their sounds as a world renowned producer, most notably for Celtic Frost, Children Of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir and Immortal. Pain are essentially a one man band with an ever impressive roster of fellow Scandinavian metallers coming in to help in the studio and on tours. This year will mark the first time the band will reach American shores, following up a massive European tour with symphonic metal stalwarts Nightwish. Their past albums have hosted an array of famous musicians, though You Only Live Twice is a highly personal album, so they opted to focus their energies internally. Influenced by Fear Factory, Rammstein and Depeche Mode, Pain is a culmination these influences seen through the always inventive Tägtgren filter!

Not what I expected, but I like it
I've been following PAIN since Peter released the very first album back in 1996. So, when I saw this had been released, I made sure I ordered it up. I have to say that this album seems to be trying to bridge the gap between PAIN and Hypocrisy. While it still has the same electronic/dance influence that PAIN seems to have had all these years, the vocals and guitars feel more like metal than many of his previous releases under the same band name. There are a lot of catchy hooks, as another reviewer mentioned. I think Low Dirty Woman was probably my favorite track on the album. This isn't my favorite PAIN album, but it is a very solid release! Looking forward to more!

A nice new release
I am shocked no one has reviewed this new release. On the bright side they have made changes in their sound and progressed into new areas. You will still recognize the formula with a few new twists. Dirty Woman reminds these ears of AC/DC.. Plenty of great hooks throughout. On the downside this record is way too short. Buy the extended version for alt versions, a great bonus track and some live tracks. This may be the best version of Eleanor Rigby I have heard. I understand the band will be coming to the US for the first time. This is a must for Rob Zombie fans. Pain has never felt better.

Another Polished Release!
Pain is the solo project of Hypocrisy's Peter Tagtgren. And when I say solo project, I mean he does the vocals, guitars, drums, arrangements and production. Where Hypocrisy focus on extra terrestial possibilities and the dark side of society, Pain is all about human emotion and the everyday pains we go through. Pain uses electronic and industrial sounds, and mainly clean vocals unlike Peter's 'main' band.It seems that every Pain album needs a few listens before I really love it - but they all grow on me in the end with their catchy lyrics and heavy, pacey, industrial musical feel. You Only Live Twice is no exception.Instantly likeable tracks are Dirty Woman, which sounds like ACDC vocals over a Slipknot backing track, and The Great Pretender. The pacey opener Let Me Out is a great introduction to the album, but there is some irony in the title track sounding similar to Same Old Song. The final track Season of the Reaper reminds me of some of the slow paced Hypocrisy tracks such as Final Chapter. In fact, there seems to be more of Hypocrisy influence coming in on this album than previously - perhaps in Peter's vocal style and guitar impact. But on the whole, this is exactly the standard we have come to expect from the unique project. My only real criticism is that it doesn't feel sufficiently new. It doesn't have quite the same exclusive and powerful feel that Rebirth had and still has for me, as though it is all becoming a bit routine and formulaic to make a Pain album. That said, it hasn't been off my car stereo since release date and I would definately recommend a listen to Pain fans existing and new.

Smashing, Heart Pounding Return To Form!!!
Possibly the best album yet (of Pain or of all time perhaps!).Combining all the good points of previous albums. There's more Hypocrisy style heavyness and vocals but with the Rebirth style speed and anger twixt melancholic and anxious melodies all combined with melting harmonies throughout. Each track is pretty individual. Peter's vocals take a stretch in a new direction with the AC/DC style 'Dirty Woman' - that's the only part I'm not mad about. The album simply gets better with every listen!Hard to pick but at the moment my personal favourite is the adrenaline inducing 'We Want More' which to me is a part 2 to 'Crashed' from Rebirth. RebirthRebirth

must have
Nothing PETER TAGTGREN does is ever below par the man just goes on producing great sounds critics may say it is a bit repetitive in places, but when you mix Rock, Metal and Techno like this guy does , Fxxx them buy this or any Pain album, would recommend a listen to the album Cynic Paradise for starters.
