Optishot 2 review after owning SkyTrak
Only had the Optishot2 for a couple of days, and am quite pleased with it. Had a SkyTrak unit prior, and found it overly complicated compared to the Optishot. The best points about the Optishot are:1) Quick easy setup2) Simplicity3) Reads every swing (at least for me)4) Can use foam or real balls5) Feedback on path, tempo, club face, swing speed6) Includes 15 courses7) Doesn't push your laptop too hard (a problem with SkyTrak - and I have a beast for a laptop)8) Portability10) Nice driving range11) Mini Tour for $50/year where you can play tournaments and get access to many more courses12) The ability to buy single courses for $30, versus expensive bundles with other golf sims13) The multi-player is a dream come true - very simple14) The amount of active games available in multi-playerThe Cons:1) Putting - it is pretty awful at this. All simulators are bad at putting, but Optishot is perhaps the worst that I've run across.2) The graphic detail is lower than other golf sims (but easier on your computer). At the same time the image is brighter, clearer.3) Those are the only cons I can think of at this point.Would highly recommend the Optishot2 to anyone wanting to practice during the winter. Can you get a better system? Probably. Do you want to spend $5,000 for it versus $300? Probably not. The next "step up" from Optishot2 is SkyTrak - and it is not worth spending the extra $. Having owned both, I prefer the Optishot2.

After 4 years I love this golf simulator!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Here is a review of the Optishot 2 golf simulator and more importantly a few tips that 1st time users wouldn't otherwise know unless they found this info in forums. 1st off I absolutely love this golf simulator. I've had it for 4 years and play at least 18 holes everyday. In the 1st couple of years my Uncle who is a pretty good golfer kept asking me if this simulator transfers to real golf. After playing on the Optishot for 2 years we had a Topgolf open where I live and within just a couple of weeks I was number one on the leader board in 6 out of the 9 games, and get this, within another month I hit the number 1 score In The WORLD in Topgolf Advanced Pressure with a score of 2250! (I held that spot for 2 months, still so cool!!) I practice hard and smart but yes the Optishot 2 had everything to do with me hitting that score. Here are the some basics and then to the tips. For $300 out of the box you get about a dozen courses. For an additional $49 a year you'll receive more courses and the ability to play in 2 tournaments a month. After the 1st year I joined the Pro Tour which gives you several more courses and from 3 to 4 tournaments a month. This last year Optishot gave us the ability to pay $200 to have a lifetime subscription to be in the Pro Tour with no other annual fees from now on. I counted 62 courses and these are some of the finest courses not only in the US but several from around the world including Scotland, South Africa, Thailand and Taiwan. We also have tournaments called Closest To The Pin about once a month where you get 9 attempts. Peer to peer allows you to set up a game or play with other people from around the world. When setting up a game you decide on 6 different wind speeds and directions, 5 different green speeds, fairway, rough and bunker difficulties that go from easy, moderate, demanding to very demanding. Other features include allowing yourself to have mulligans or not, gimmy putts to whatever distance you choose, different camera angles, tracer shot technology, replay shots, save game, etc. In practice mode you can choose any course any hole and any ball placement for that hole as well as a practice range. Here's some important tips. Before you begin you need to calibrate your clubs. You'll be asked to do 5 strokes with a square club face then 5 closed and 5 open. The trick is to use a PUTTING STROKE not a full swing which can be inconsistent. Next in the bottom right hand menu go to edit Club Set and you will determine the speed adjust and distance adjust to match the distance you want each club to be. Most of my clubs are at 110% in both speed and distance.I've seen reviews that criticize putting. I totally disagree. As real golfers know putting is a combination of putter speed, slope, green speed and whether you're hitting up or down hill and the degree of that. I think some people try to hit across the pad at an angle to adjust for slope. It's better to use the arrows on your keypad to determine where you would aim taking into account your green speed setting (fast greens break more than slow ones) how many inches up or down hill and the severity of break. Then hit squarely with your putter on the pad. In real golf you want to be able to hit your putter squarely with the correct speed at a target according to all the variables and this thing is extremely sensitive and consistent. If you want to compete at a high level in our tournaments you need to be putting lights out and making birdies. As David Duvall says golf is all about being able to repeat. Optishot 2 will reward you if you do something right.Optishot 2 does not measure ball spin or launch angle but for the reviews that say it doesn't measure hitting fat they're just plain wrong. Hit fat and you'll see not only a loss of distance but usually your clubhead will be open just like in real golf. By the way, I don't hit with a ball since I play aiming at my TV and like not having wear and tear on my 63 year old joints.I used to think I would have to win a big lottery to have a $50,000 golf simulator in my house. That would be nice but for the price I love this thing just as much as I did when I first got it. You'll find me in the tournaments as MarkMak. Best of luck!

Good for fun, not for reality
The OptiShot was a great idea. I thought I'd get a lot of practice in over the winter months and really improve my game while having some fun at the same time. Unfortunately, the OptiShot is very inaccurate. Even with calibrating each club, with great lighting and using all the techniques support has you do, it remains inaccurate. I can take a massive swing and purposely mishit it and it will go 350 yards and straight. I am a 9 handicap and I know a little bit about the swing and my swing. I know when I hit it fat, open face, closed face etc but Optishot rarely recognizes it.I would say if you want to get this just for fun with your buddies in your game room etc, it is great for that. But if you are looking for realistic shots and help improve your game, this is not for you.

I love this thing
I love this thing! I can play 18 holes anytime I want, rain or shine. Couple of points; Putting not so great but once you get the hang of it, not so bad either. I would recommend using the long/short tee on every shot. While it's pretty sturdy in the base, metal, the housing is plastic and the first one I had shattered on a miss hit by one of my friends who did not use a tee. Lesson learned. Excellent feed back on swing speed, plane and face position at impact. really has helped me correct some minor issues. I bought a Rukket 10x7ft Haack Golf Net (great product!) and use it indoor. You can swing without a golfball, of course, but I like the feel of the ball on the club face. What can I say, I've played 18 almost every day since I got this thing! Love it.

When it does work, it is terribly inaccurate.
It doesn't like sunlight, incandescent light bulbs, halogen light bulbs, and even certain heaters. So not really suitable for most indoor or outdoor environments. Once I blocked out all my windows and changed all my light bulbs, it then didn't like the shape/colour of my clubs. So now I need a new set of clubs. Everything above 50 mph is registered as a massive in to out slice, with the face wide open. I can literally close the club face by 45 degrees and it still registers as an open face. The calibration doesn't fix this. The offset setting help with the open face issue, but now almost everything is read as hit fairly straight - even a monster slice or massive duck hook. Almost Everything is registered as being hit from the toe. This can only be solved by hitting with the hosle of the club- it then sometimes registers these massively shanked shots as being hit from the centre of the club - ridiculous. Even the most exaggerated out to in swing path is registered as in to out. Utterly useless and frustrating product.

Fun, but don't expect to get better at golf!
Very easy to setup, impressive simulator interface. If you want this to play with mates and have a laugh then it's great for the money.Unfortunately it is not accurate enough to improve your game. You can't rely on the feedback to make any changes, in fact it could be detrimental. This system can tell you that you've hit a duck hook when in fact the face was open. It was giving me swing speeds in excess of 130 mph for my driver when I know it's actually only around 105 mph (from Trackman). There are ways to make it better with tape on your clubs etc, but for me it is never going to give me valuable feedback. It's also very high off the ground, more so than it looks, and makes a nasty sound when you strike it slightly fat. I wouldn't recommend.

Best for Price
Quality product, easy to set up and use. As a single handicap golfer this practice tool is great for your long game but you will need to buy a putting mate to get the best out of it. I have used it tee to green with all my clubs and it does give realistic feedback, I have come off the ball on purpose and the sensors have projected the slice to the screen, likewise i have played a hook and again realistic response.Well worth the money especially in this lockdown.
