A square square
Meets my needs perfectly for my simple wood work. I believe it is square by testing it against Precision Steel 1-2-3 Blocks. It came coated with grease to prevent rust. I do wish it was not susceptible to rusting. I do not know much about metal, but if there was a cost effective rust proof steel they could use it would be better than having to de-grease/re-grease etc.

it's square
Picked this up primarily to use on my lathe. Finding other uses for it too. Makes it easy to get tooling square to the work piece.

Square as I can tell
The square came with a light coating of grease that was easy to wipe off, inside a sealed plastic bag, inside a plain white cardboard box that appeared to be waxed or otherwise coated on the inside to repel moisture. To test, all I could do was hold it against a laminated worktop and strike a line, then flip and strike another line about 1/16" from the first. The two lines were parallel to my eye. Then I checked it against other squares, some known to be out, some I believe to be true; it agreed. For setting up my woodworking machines it is adequate to the task and a good bargain.Update: April 2014 -- The square has been in use for almost one year and has not rusted or dulled. It is still square to the best of my ability to test. My only regret is that I didn't buy the 6" to go with it.

Square but not perfect
The square is perfectly square from what I can tell after a few measurements and trials. However, the long face of the square has been inserted into the "base" crooked so it veers off about 1/16 of an inch overall along the face of the square. I know that doesn't affect the squareness but it's nonetheless a flaw. For $12.50 I guess it's a good value but I've seen other squares that are slightly more expensive that may perfect. In other words, I wouldn't buy a Robert Larson square again but it'll do the job for now.

this thing is awesome!
This is perfect. I trust it's trueness better than a quick square and the like. I used it to true up my table saw blade, throat plate, miter saw blade and adjustments for both machines. It is smaller and can fit into my tool bag which is nice. This is much easier to use against the blade of my miter saw rather than my quick square. Very handy tool and i believe the price is right. I am actually looking to buy the 6" in the near future. These paired with a scribe will mean very accurate cut. Something every woodworker strives for.

How did I live without this?
Awesome little square. Like other reviewers have said, it came in a plain white box, wrapped in a bag covered in oil. After wiping the oil off, I was ready to go. I used it to help set up a table saw I had recently purchased. Couldn't have done it with out it. I also went through and checked all my regular squares and found out that one of my favorite ones that I use all the time was not quite square. oopsI like this one so much I'll most likely get the larger 6 inch one as well.

I had cheaper squares with better precision. It was a waste of money
Not as precise as advertised. I had cheaper squares with better precision. It was a waste of money.

Nice accurate square
It is the right size for setting up my woodworking machines to get the blade or the drill 90 degrees to the table.
