Impeccable Quality (Table of Contents Included in Review)
Purchased: Leo Tolstoy - Collected Shorter Fiction Volume 2 (Everyman’s Library)Everyman’s Library offers impeccable quality for the books in these product lines. However, I wish they would begin clearly laying out the table of contents for their collection volumes either in the product description or somewhere on their website - allowing a consumer to quickly determine the works included in a collection they are about to purchase. When I was looking for the Maude translation of particular Tolstoy works, I had great difficulty locating a text table of contents for these two volumes. After purchase, I discovered the contents are included with the Kindle “sample” but that is not immediately intuitive. To aid in the efforts of future searchers, I have compiled the table of contents from Collected Shorter Fiction Volume II. Where there are non-ASCII characters in the title, I have included both the original and the ASCII title to aid Google/Amazon searching. I have also identified which stories are the classic Maude translations and which are Nigel J. Cooper.Contents of Collected Shorter Fiction Volume 2Aylmer and Louise Maude Translations- A Spark Neglected Burns the House (1885) … 1- Two Old Men (1885) … 21- Where Love is, God is (1885) … 47- The Story of Iván the Fool / The Story of Ivan the Fool (1885) … 63- Stories Written to Pictures (1885) - Evil Allures, but Good Endures … 97 - Little Girls Wiser than Men … 100 - Ilyás / Ilyas … 103- The Death of Iván Ilých / The Death of Ivan Ilych (1886) … 109- The Three Hermits (1886) … 173- The Imp and the Crust (1886) … 183- How Much Land Does a Man Need? The Greatest Russian Lit. Book!
Oh, my goodness I nearly cried when this arrived in the mail! When I was nine years old (I was a very advanced reader) I found this at the library and read every word of it. It meant so much to me then, and after all these years the stories are just as wonderful. There is a great amount of verisimilitude in each story as Tolstoy embarks on a mission to understand humanity, and himself, by way of experiencing everything he can. Under all of it is his growing sense of morality and life lessons that he learns from others and from learning about it the hard way. A common theme is of a longsuffering soul who wins in the end because they endured with honor, faith, and compassion. Sounds dismal, I know, but it really isn't when you read it for yourself. You really feel as though you are there with him as he journeys across the Caucasus as a young man. The stories are actually vibrant with life and color, even though I've done a terrible job of describing it!

This is a great book. I bought it mainly to read The Death of Iván Ilÿch with hopes of finding a few of the other stories interesting and was not disappointed. Tolstoy is an extremely powerful writer and his stories stay with you a long time.

Tolstoy's Collected Shorter Fiction-Vol. 2
This is an excellent translation of some of Tolstoy's shorter fiction. The binding is also excellent, which makes this particular collection a wonderful gift to someone who enjoys Tolstoy, or a delicious treasure to savor for oneself. For those who can be intimidated by the longer (much longer) works, this is a fine introduction to Tolstoy's voice and worldview. I recommend this edition unreservedly.

Leo Tolstoy 's Collected Shorter Fiction: Volume I
This book by Leo Tolstoy is great for reading in installments. I like reading several books at a time and switch back and forth. So short stories works great! His writing is like photography. This edition is from Everyman's Library and I am quite pleased.

Tolstoy for every person from Everyman's Library
Beautifully bound edition of a master's later short stories. Tolstoy at his seasoned best. A great addition to any classical literature library.

classic read
A gift for the classic reader. The pages are thin which makes reading difficult for the older reader.

Impeccable if the damaged jacket can be overlooked - Everymans Library Edition
The book is beautiful and my first Everyman library collection. The paper is exquisite and fonts are large which makes reading comfortable. The hardcover itself looks elegant and vol. 2 contains 35 short stories in total. But it reached with a torn dust jacket and dents on the hardcover due to poor packing and as expected, I received it in a paper envelope again. Price dropped by half @ 811 and I immediately pounced on it. All the more because its currently priced exorbitantly here(check the actual tag on the back cover pic).Following a recurrence, I guess I understand now price drops means either the book is old, or its damaged in some way. Whatever it be, dont expect it to be in perfect condition, nor should they expect a 5 star rating which seems a hard thing to give these days.
