hey fair is fair
Totally dig this bag, Its a Teton and that pretty much means its over built and it was intended for giants or for claustrophobes (me) when it comes to sleeping bags..I remembered reading some reviews and people not really appreciating the temp rating. Here in the states we really need to get a regulated form of rating bags, but i digress on that point. Here's the deal Teton rates for survival not comfort. Sleeping in it at 60 degrees is adequate, but you couldnt pay me to sleep in it when the nights low is expected to be 40.Umm, compression? it does seem kinda amazing to pull it out of that tiny little sack. but i dont really think it is actually compressing all that much as it is a very thin bag.the construction of this bag seems like one of those silky-ish sleeping bag liners on the outside and a not-so fuzzy polyfleece inside. So for me it is terrific for what i wanted it for.I didnt want this for a spring and fall bag. I wanted it for a summertime bag, ya know when its too damned hot to sleep anyways. And with pretty much everything else i put in my pack it has to have a secondary function, and so for me this is also a sleeping bag liner. Can't rightly say i've used it by itself outside. Its still winter-y at the time of this writing (dang-it)However i have gotten to use it for some winter camping, focusing on its secondary purpose - a liner.I used this bag inside of a TETON Sports Celsius XL -18 Degree C / 0 Degree F Flannel Lined Sleeping Bag (90"x 36", Green) inside of a clark nx-250 hammock with the z-liner installed. The night low was expected to be 10f, but i couldnt tell you how low it actually got because i was sleeping and toasty warm. ( well my nose got a little cold) . . . As a note here, normally i would put a coleman bag inside of the teton 0 degree bag. But that antique coleman bag is just too damned bulky in my pack.Teton says youll void the warranty if you wash their bags. ( dont worry they all wash fine) I can also say that this bag dries quickly, very quickly. Maybe one of my kids spilled on it. and maybe i decided to rinse it in the bathtub hastily, and maybe i attempted to wring it out as best i could and hang on the shower curtain rod to maybe find it damn near dry 30 mins later.ahh well whatever, i give it 5 stars as a sleeping bag winter-liner and 4 stars as a summer bag (we all know that there are better ones out there)so a 4.5 becomes a 5 because at least one maker of sleeping bags remembers not everyone is 5'8" (imma tall guy)if you got any questions drop a note, i'll try and help you out.good luck and be safe out there!

Long lasting, durable, comfortable light weight bag
Not sure what most if these people are complaining about. If you take a 40 degree bag in 40 degree weather and your sleeping in your skivvies, yes, of course your gonna be cold. First time you use it, if your not bringing extra clothes, that's on you. That being said, I used it on a windy 0° night in just underwear and a t-shirt and I was good. It's a solid, durable bag. The inside is super soft, and it have a small pocket inside for your phone or something. I also was feeling a little chilly before hitting the sack, so I opened up up the foot hole on the bottom and turned myself into a big burrito. And when zipped up, the foot box is much roomier then a typical mummy bag. Sure, you can get a cheaper bag that may keep you warmer. But it won't be as comfortable and it won't last as long. Also, the "compression sack" it comes with is more of draw string stuff sack then anything, no exterior compression straps. BUT it still fit nicely in my Teton explorer bag. I'm quite a fan of this brand! The stuff is a tiny bit heavier then more high end stuff, but it's pretty good for those starting out.

Great summer bag!
I'm a stocky 72 inches tall and average 220lbs, and I fit in this bag easily. I have only taken this bag on one weekend hiking/camping trip on the AT. It is very light and gets nicely small in its stuff sack. I bought this bag because it was lightweight and square bottomed. This means I could easily unzip it on warm summer nights and use it like a blanket. It is manufactured pretty well. The tag reads that if the owner machine washes this bag, the warranty is void. Well, since it doesn't have any stuffing, I tried it. I have washed it three times in a front loader on delicate setting and dried it on low heat with no damage. Another bonus to this bag. Now, on the camp trip I mentioned above, it got slightly below 40 degrees during the night. I added the Teton liner (see my other review for my opinion of that purchase), but I still got cold by morning. I know, I know, the temperature ratings are not exact. However, I was actually pretty comfortable at first with wool socks, undies, base layer l/s shirt, and a fleece beanie cap. But, the ground was slightly slopped and my feet was down hill, so as the night went on my feet got cold and then up my legs. Obviously the heat was rising uphill, because my upper body was really warm all night.

A nice lightweight sleeping bag that seems to keep me warm
I have only taken this on one camping trip so far.I spent the day hiking, and spent the night in humid conditions where the temperature dropped down to about 40 degrees, which is at the stated limit for this sleeping bag. I used an inflatable pad beneath it, and I slept fully clothed. I never felt cold at all and was quite comfortable under these conditions.I have read many reviews from people saying that they felt cold with this sleeping bag at higher temperatures. I am not sure why that might be, but if i had to guess it may be due to not having enough insulation below the bag or sleeping in light clothing. I get cold easily, though, so take my comments for what they are worth.Overall, I am happy with this bag though. It kept me warm, and it's very light which is nice if you are hiking all day.

Great lightweight 1-2 season bag
Great lightweight 1-2 season bag. The 40 degree rating is definitely a survival rating NOT a comfort rating. Perfect bag for those 60+ degree nights. Took it to Tennessee in May, had a cold snap come through. 40-50 degree over night. Was pretty cold throughout the night. Next trip brought a long a Sea to Summit thermal liner - big improvement. Very roomy. Super lightweight for the price. Good material - on one trip we got a lot of rain and had some condensation drip in the tent from the rain fly. Stayed dry the entire night. Super thin so bring some sort of sleeping pad. My Klymit static V nests inside the bag with plenty of room for me. Definitely a piece to add to your kit. Not a 3 season bag.

Definitely not as warm as rated
The bag is nice and large, but not even close to something you'd want to rely on in 4 degree weather. I was cold using this bag in 15 degree weather, with clothing on. 10 degrees with multiple layers on was very cold and uncomfortable.
