Very Useful Art Reference
This review does not pertain much to the text in the book, as I have not actually sat down and READ all of it. That said, the bits I have read seem pretty clear and informative, though I can't account for its accuracy or things like that. I decided to leave a review anyway, because the reason I have not thoroughly read all the text is because I bought this book to use as an artistic reference, so I only read what's relevant to my needs at the time.I was a little nervous, because the description was vague, there were no reviews, and no "look inside" feature here on Amazon. I decided to give it a shot anyway, and for my purposes it turned out to be absolutely perfect! The chapters progress from 3000BC to 1971, and while there is more text than images, each chapter is loaded with line drawings (like the cover image) of the undergarments on figures, some times just the garment itself (generally in the case of things like corsets) and a few drawings of clothed figures to show how the garment affected the overall style. The only possible negative is that I'm not sure it accounts much for location or culture. The earliest chapters touch on ancient Egypt and Greece, but beyond that it seems to stay focused mainly on European/Western civilization. But for my purposes, it has proved very useful and in fact exceeded my expectations.

Lovely Illustrations
Am very glad to have managed to get myself a first edition of this, as the illustrations were done by my grandma! Also, if you are interested in underwear fashion over time, then there's plenty of information in this book and wonderful illustrations!

Did what I wanted
I used this book to research women's underwear for a particular period I was writing a story about - I like being accurate in my descriptions. It did the job perfectly well as far as i was concerned but I know nothing about fashion to say anything more.
