T1i owners should get this instead of David Busch's!
If you want to learn how to take great pictures using your Canon Rebel T1i, get this book. This book covers everything you need to know about your camera's functions and how to use it to shoot great shots. Revell explains exposure so succinctly that this is the first book that gave me full grasp of the topic. (I've read a few others).I read someone complain here that there are several full-page pictures in this book and that this does not justify the number of pages this book claims to have. How can a book that is about photography, not include photographs? Any book on photography is incomplete without showing you pictures so you can understand how different exposure settings produce different results. The author does a great job of showing some of his pictures from his own collection as examples. I like this approach because it makes the concepts easier to understand - a picture is worth a thousand words! What's even better is that this book is written for the owners of Rebel T1i so not only does it show you how to take great shots but also shows you how to exclusively do it with your own camera so you'll know exactly which menu you have to go to change settings. The only thing that I wish Revell covered more was HDR photography. This book slightly touches it but does not go into more detail.

Good beginner book/only one issue
I was looking for a book specific to my camera, the Canon Rebel t1i/500D, that I got from my husband for Christmas.I had never used an SLR before and had no idea about aperture, iso or anything else related to an SLR. I knew I neededa book for beginners as the owners manual was difficult for me to read (small print) and comprehend. After reading the reviews on several of the books "specific" to my camera and for beginners, I finally settledon this one by Jeff Revell. It is written in a way that I can understand, at the end of each chapter there are assignments to complete.I now know about the basics and beyond and feel much more confident using my camera. The only fault I have with this book is that the photo examples he uses in the book are often taken with lens thatdidn't come with the camera, I have the 18-55. So after learning a new skill, you really can't go out and try them out unless you haveadditionally invested in an array of lens.Over all I have learned a lot from this book and continue to refer to it often.

Exactly what I was looking for!
This book was just what I wanted as a new owner of a T1i/500D! I'm a mostly beginning photographer and wanted a guide that would specifically help with my model of camera as well as providing general rules. This one does just that, and is simple, straightforward, and well-organized.This one is perfect for that. It includes explanations of basic photography stuff that might not be as helpful to more advanced photographers, but were extremely helpful for me as a beginner. It also has lots of detailed instructions about how to work all the settings on your specific camera model, which really cut down on time and frustration in the learning process. The book has lots of chapters on tons of different stuff, so you can really isolate and work on one thing on a time, or easily go back and review if you want. One of my favorite parts was the little assignments at the end of the chapter. They really helped give me fun ideas about how to practice.I definitely recommend this book if you're just getting into DSLR photography - I saw pretty much instant results in my photographs, and got an in-depth tour of all the cool things my camera can do. A great book!

Amateur - Getting the hang of things
From the moment I started reading the chapter 1-2, I was able to see a change in my pictures using the Manual button, verses using the Potrait mode. I am absolutely thrilled I ordered this book to learn my camera.Every other week I try to use what I learnt in that chapter over the weekend to understand it in real practice. I must say I am loving it!!! My new pix are absolutely lovely, and close friends still don't believe me when I post my pix on my private facebook page LOL!!! ( I would post pix of my little girl, but I will not pimp my daughter, LOL) I will find a scenary pix to post later!I continue to learn and truly understanding the Apeture, Shutter, and ISO settings. I am a bit challenged in this area (my mind is a lil slow on this topic). But I have been using one other feature in display mode to see if too much or too little is in each shot!!Take it from a true DSLR amateur, its worth the purchase and time to learn on this expensive camera. I do plan purchasing a third len soon!

Best of the Bunch
I bought a T1i a few weeks ago as my first SLR camera. I shopped a few different "T1i specific" books, and found this one to be the best, by a long shot. The others all seemed to be a bit too much of an "expanded manual", in that they taught the reader how to use the camera and all its settings (in a much better way than the included manual), but didn't do a great job of teaching great photography. (example- it will show you how to adjust your ISO, without explaining what ISO is, and when you would want to adjust it).Other photography books (not specific to any particular model camera) were simply not adequate because if i wasn't learning how to use MY camera, the book wasn't helpful. Jeff Revell's book found the perfect balance between the other books. He teaches the basics (and some advanced techniques), easy to understand for a first time SLR owner, and does it while teaching you how to use YOUR camera (assuming you own the T1i). He also has a ton of great examples in there of great shots he took, and the settings and circumstances that produced those shots. I'll re-read this again soon to perfect some of the tips and techniques.

Excellent book
This is an excellent book as are all the "from snapshots to great shots" books. Each book covers all the functions of your camera you are ever likely to use, it not only explains how to use then it also helps you to understand why you should use them.I have the canon 500D and G12 cameras and books and rate them as two of the best photography books I have ever owned and I've been interested in this hobby for almost thirty years. If you want to get the most out of your camera then this is the book for you.EXCELLENT!
