Native American Songs and Poems: An Anthology (Dover Thrift Editions)

It is a thin book, and there is only about one poem per page, but they are excellent. Well worth the price. Beautiful. Seems legit

It can help you understand a world you forgot existed and a people who understood time.

Some fine selections, including a mixture of older traditional songs/poems from a variety of tribes/nations and recent work by contemporary poets. The major weakness is the lack of any sort of context for the poems, including dates they were published/recorded. That makes me hesitant about giving it five stars. But it fully accomplishes what it means to, which is more humble than what I may have wanted it to, which is to offer a small taste of a range of native verse at a very affordable price.

This was a gift for an young indian man I know. He loved it. He is a Native American friend

It is something to take in value in understanding the art of another's culture and this explores that.

I was expecting translations of Native Amercan traditional works. This was poetry by Native Americans through all recent times.

Insightful. Wisdom that all people can learn from. Touched my heart and soul. We should have been listening to our Native Elders from the beginning.

Quite a fast read, but the range from contemporary to pre-colonial native american voices made up for the books shortness
