Fantastic Rust Creator
Bought this to rapidly create rust on 3D prints. Worked fantastic on this filament that had metal filing inside. Mixed rust activator with water and soaked 3D print in it for a day or two and it created a fantastic layer of rust

What else in my home needs a charming rusty finish?
So now I'm currently looking around my apartment for more things to rust! This paint is amazing! My only problem with it is the rust is very very VERY orange. Normally, when things rust, there are some variations in the color, but when you use this precise a product, you don't get that. I've started using a little bit of the bronze paint dry brushed on to the iron paint, as that seems to tone the orange down and make the rust look a little more authentic. The bronze darkens the orange and makes it a little less *luminous.*I pour a little of the rust activator in a paper cup and brush/daub it on. I haven't sprayed it yet, but the liquid is very runny (as thin as water) and I wouldn't advise spraying it unless you have a flat surface (or you like streaks in your rust). Whatever you do, however, don't dip the brush you're using to apply the rust activator back into the bottle. You'll get metal in it and the whole bottle will discolor. You need the primer with these paints, so don't think you can skip it (I usually do, but I'm glad I didn't).These modern masters rust/patina paints are fantastic fun, and they do exactly what they advertise, as long as you follow the directions.

Stop looking for a "faux / real rust" product for mixed media, this is it!
Best product I have ever used to create "faux / real rust" on mixed media and altered objects. This product actually produces REAL rust on your surface within a few minutes. It needs to be combined with the iron paint for the desired effect. 2 coats are needed but they get applied and dry fast. The rust appears in a couple of minutes but it is best to wait about 1 hour or more (overnight) to get the full effect. The results blew me away! It works on everything I tried without any Gesso (including plain jane paper , photos, canvas, diverse metal objects, burlap...). The only one that did not really take was a chipboard piece (too porous?)... May be a fluke or I should have gesso'd it prior because everything else is amazing! It even started verdigris overnight on some pieces!

love this product
This product worked magic on an old chandelier that I wanted to give a rustic/rusted look to, love this product! Make sure you get the rust activation paint, otherwise it is not nearly as effective. I used this product with both regular paint and the rust activator paint and it works eons better with the rust activation paint! See pictures attached of the chandelier now - you will noticed the rusted farmhouse look - this product really helped me accomplish it!

Rust Activator for Modern Masters Iron Paint
This rust activator works beautifully when teamed with the Modern Masters iron paint. I found that to achieve the best results, you must:1. Prime the object you are working on. I wouldn't necessarily say you need the Modern Masters primer, I've gotten great effects by using Rustoleum "hammered" spray paint.2. Apply two coats of the iron paint.3. Apply however many coats of rust activator you wish to achieve the level of rusty look you desire. For me it is usually two coats.I would definitely suggest purchasing the spritzer cap. Over time, using a brush to apply the rust activator eventually ruins the activator because you are mixing in the combination of activator/dried rusting paint every time you dip the brush to apply a coat. My bottle of blue rust activator turned to orange eventually and my activator started rusting in a weird puke color, so definitely use a spritzer.

Got half a bottle.
This was less than a quarter the price when I got it and still not worth it since half the bottle leaked out. No way I'd pay the price they're trying to get. What a joke!

Poor ordering system
It work great. The only problem I had was that I couldn't order both this and the paint in one order because it didn't equal 25$ that was crap. So it coast me more money to order them separately. I had to select this item and a airbrush set then cancel the airbrush set just to get this item. Because it was only 5$ it couldn't be ordered by it self. Product it good but. I had to do it makes me not want to use amazon.com in the future
