Tannoy Reveal 802 Studio Monitor

Tannoy's quality continues to impress me. I finally had to retire my pair of Tannoy monitors after 28 years of active duty. The Reveal 802 is perfect for my home studio - they sound great and they delivery bottom end punch that makes me smile every time. Output is via Pro Tools via a Universal Audio Apollo Twin.

Estoy sorprendido de lo bien que se escuchan. Soy un amateur de la música y estaba buscando monitores para estudio. Nunca había tenido tan buena experiencia de sonido. El balance entre graves, medios y agudos hace que todo lo escuches desde volúmenes bajos y en volumen alto no distorsiona en absoluto.

Tardaron varias semanas en llegar, cuando las tuve una venía con el tweeter defectuoso, tardaron otras 4 semanas en revisar y cambiarmelo. Finalmente los tengo bien, Sonido poderoso y acertado, pero tengo miedo en el control de calidad y en cuanto tiempo me van a durar bien.

These 802 are excellent speakers. They are significantly larger drivers than the 501a and such need to be placed proportionally further back in order to resize the lower low frequencies with out some kind of eq adjustments. They likely benefit from some pads. I believe all the negative comments are not complete but these speakers may not be for everyone. The Tannoys seem to provide minimal coloring and don’t “hype” the bass the ways KRKs and other similar speakers seem to. As with any pro speaker system you “may” have to make adjustments to the environment and or hardware to ge what you need out of them. I’ve had larger and smaller setups. I’ve engineered and performed in a world class studios since the 80s. Speakers are like people, the have unique characteristics, personalities. Thes 802 are different t beasts than the smaller 501a or NS10s or KRKs, you name it but they are solid, moldable and accurate. I recommend a minimum placement of at least 5-6 feet if not further. That’s just how it is. I have it done tests with the built in EQ which may minimize the placement range. I’ve heard comments about imaging. That can be subjective but from what I have heard thus far I just don’t see any lacking in this area with my own mixes and with the works of others but to each his/her own. For the money, these are great speakers for budget or better production providing very good reference
