My Review of 6 Pill Cutters or Splitters: The best
I wrote this to help other patients who need to cut small pills. I am not affiliated with any company, and didn't receive any freebies.Prices from cheapest to most expensive [correct on Amazon in April 2023]:Ezy Dose Pill Cutter and Splitter with Dispenser, $2.49Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter, $4.50Auvon Scissors-Shaped Pill Cutter, Sharp Blade Pill Splitter, $5.99Fullicon Pill Cutter for Small or Large Pills, $9.99Equadose Pill Cutter V2, $17.95Equal Split Pill Splitter, Double Blades, $20.82I have been looking for a pill cutter/pill splitter for small pills that measure 0.25 inch across in diameter. I need to split them into quarters. Please note that for all pill cutters, it's best to press slowly to get a more accurate cut. In order of best to worst:Fullicon Pill Cutter for Small or Large Pills, 5 starsMy first choice: I highly recommend for accurate cutting of small pills.Pros:Highly accurate, because there's an insert for every shape of pill. The pill-shaped inserts mean that the pill cannot slip, so it removes user error.AffordableCons:Flimsy PlasticSingle blade design gives a tiny amount of powder. If they could redesign this with a double blade, it would be amazing!I'd also like inserts shaped like half a pill, as it would be super accurate.Equal Split Pill Splitter, Double Blades, 5 starsMy joint first choice: I highly recommend for accurate cutting of small pills.Pros:Easy to position pillGives an accurate cut because it has 2 bladesProduces almost no powderSimple, elegant designHighly durable metal constructionCons:Prone to user errorI'd like to see the base plate have vertical markings to aid the user in placing the pill accurately. Once placed, the cut is accurate. Please note that you place the pill flat, not on its rounded end. The advantage is that you can see clearly where the cut will be, and it's more accurate. When I tried to place a pill upright, balanced on its curved end, although the cut is a shorter distance, it was less accurate.Equadose Pill Cutter V2: 4 starsI have used this for a long time, recommended.Pros:Double blade gives very accurate cutsSafe, retractable bladeCreates clean halvesNo powder or crushingCons:Flimsy plasticWhen cutting a small pill into quarters, it's hard to position a half pill, and is occasionally prone to inaccuracy and slipping.Auvon Scissors-Shaped Pill Cutter: 3 stars for small pillsPros:Durable, sturdy designInexpensiveCuts accuratelyAlmost no powder or crushingCons:With small pills, it's hard to see exactly where the cut will happen. And, being scissors, the blades don't meet in the middle, they slide past each other, so I didn't get a perfect cut. This design is prone to user error. I would rate it more highly with large pills, but it didn't get the job done for small pills.Ezy Dose Pill Cutter: 1 starNot recommendedCons:Flimsy plasticOnly one bladeInaccurateCrushes pillsApex Deluxe Pill Splitter: 1 starNot recommendedCons:Flimsy plasticOnly one bladeInaccurateCrushes pills

This is one cool little pill splitter
This little pill splitter is pretty neat, and sturdy. It’s a bit overkill for what it does and its limitations, but I bought this little guy because it is made from a metal that does not rust. I am moving into a sailboat full-time and intend to sail it around the world. The salty/humid environment is not kind to most metals…especially the simple razor blades/similar blades found in the typical pill cutters. There are plastic pill cutters but those can dull on larger “horse” pills. This one does not dull, and I have enjoyed splitting pills with it, as strange as that may sound.I am careful with the sliding acrylic lid as I have read many reviews where others have stated it broke/snapped off. I have been careful to make sure that the lid is squarely in place before snapping a pill in half; I always make sure my fingers are clear of the gap between the acrylic lid and the hollow space of the pill splitter when it is open/a pill is between the pincers…the gap closes quickly as the pill is split and the splitter returns to it’s closed position. No problems so far.I will say, one note, that when splitting pills enmasse just to get them split and out of the way, the lower edge in the back of the pill splitter can tend to make your finger a little tender after a while. This is usually more to do with finger placement than any kind of issue. However, the bottom edge for one of the sliding metal pieces is thin. And when you apply force to snap a big pill in half, the sudden snapping of the pill causes the back edge (that is pulled up in open position) to come down suddenly and quickly into back into place. Because the pill splitter requires considerable force to close it/snap a large pill in half, the finger placed on the bottom kind of confirms to the bottom edge and squishes upwards a little. The sudden snapping downward of the pill splitting causes the elevated back piece of the splitter to come down hard into place. Though it doesn’t pinch the finger when it closes, the repeated and sudden slamming of this little edge into your finger back there reconforms that finger to the wider profile of the pill splitter box when it is closed. The first 20 or so times it really doesn’t hurt, but after repeated pill snaps, the finger can get a little tender and may require repositioning it to avoid getting “poked?” By the back edge as it comes crashing down into its closed position. It’s a very minor thing, but something to watch out for.A lot of words to explain a little thing, but it’s a confusing thing to try to describe. Anyway, I’m hoping that this might make sense to someone and be helpful to them.At any rate, I love this little thing and very happy with it.
