The original Nite Note was a quality product; that's not true now, though.
I bought a Nite Note when they first came out, probably three or four years ago, and loved it. It was a quality item, solid, obviously well made, worked well, and was always there on the night stand when I needed it. Also, the paper was of good stock, i.e: fairly heavy. Then the light stopped working, and that was OK as I had gotten lots of service from it and figured I would get another one, so I ordered it.When the new one arrived last month I eagerly opened it and was sorely disappointed. The "new" Nite Note is flimsy, built with the thinest plastic, and quality control is lacking as when I tried to pull the pen out, the bottom half stayed stuck in the device and the top half came out in my hand. Also, the paper is now the thinnest imaginable. It's clear a bean counter got hold of this product and is trying to squeeze every last penny out of it by not just cutting corners, but lopping them completely off.

As someone who wakes up with my head filled with to-do action items....
I received my first one several decades ago. As someone who wakes up with my head filled with to-do action items I would be annoyed to go back to the olden days of scribbling notes in the dark. The original unit's switch wore out and there was no practical way to get inside to fix it so I went online and found a replacement in Feb 2015. At that time they seemed alarmingly scarce. That replacement had LEDs rather than tiny incandescent bulbs. The 2015 product description lacked that info but it was what I had hoped would be the case. When it arrived the LEDs were exceedingly dim but whatever the cause, they perked up in a day.or so. The LEDs are considerably brighter than what I need but not everybody might agree. Better too bright than too dim.If the case were easy to open I would add some red filtering to make them more friendly to dark-adapted eyes that just opened up long enough to jot something important. The quick fix is to partially shield the light with the thumb of my holding hand.Minor issues: the pen from the new 2105 unit was not as nice as the older one (c. 1990??) so I swapped them. They will write with the ballpoint up as they must to be of much use. The pen is very slender and if you have any reason to find fault with the one supplied, expect to find it hard to make a substitute. It's simpler to buy a new unit than hunt down only the pen. Unless you write tomes in the dark the refill should last for a decade or more. I recently decided to pick up a spare unit for fear that someday they will be discontinued and I will have to sleep with a miner's lamp on my forehead. This shopping trip I see Fisher "SPR4" refills shown as ones that other buyers chose at the time of purchase. I'll have to check to see if the 2015 pen has any markings on its refill to confirm that. I have other Fisher pens but none with this particular style refill so spares refills seem unnecessary until the existing ones starting to misbehave. Even then it would be tempting to buy the entire unit for $9.99 instead of $5 for a refill. More study needed.

Poor Copy
I bought these as gifts for friends, and when they arrived I noticed right away that they are not as nice as my old one. I don't know if the quality went down, or if these are knock-offs.

OK, but not as good as the original
I bought this as a replacement for a previous NiteNote that I had worn out. This one is adequate, but I requested a black one and was sent a white one. Additionally, this one is made in China of cheaper materials rather than made in the U.S. like my original one. The battery compartment is also not as sturdy, nor is the pen. So far it is functioning fine, but I am skeptical that it will last as long as my other one which I have had for many years. If it makes it a couple of years, then I will buy again. It is very handy when you want to jot something down after the lights are out, and that helps me sleep rather than worry about forgetting something by morning.

Better off squinting at Post-its
This is a slipshod product, even by Chinese manufacturing standards. The LED flickers, and it's not bright enough to be helpful even when it works correctly. The included pen arrived nonfunctional; I was unable to get a single line of ink out of it.The battery does not arrive installed, and you have to pry out the notecards to insert it. The package includes extra notecards, but unfortunately not an extra pen, extra ink, or replacement LEDs.Even if everything worked, you'd still have a mess of used notecards cluttering up your drawers. For your money, you'd be better off with a small flashlight, clip on LED, or a lighted pen.

Great bedside note pad
This is our second nite note. First one lasted 15 years! So very handy.

It works for me!
It never fails. Get in bed & I remember something I need to do. If I don't write it down it drives me nuts & I can't get to sleep! This lighted notepad fills the bill. Works fine for me & when the cards run out, I'll use Post-It notes instead, which will work even better!
