Best used with short bursts.
This is a great design in theory, but I fear that it must have been designed before American propane tanks were nanny-engineered. It works as advertised for short bursts, but there is a design feature on modern American tanks trying to idiot proof them. If it is run full on for more than a few seconds a choke valve kicks in and slows the flow back to a trickle. This valve is finicky and sometimes sets off flow restriction and sometimes not. The instructions are helpful at reducing this but won’t eliminate it. Propane companies won’t fill tanks with the old style valves which work all the time so I guess we’re stuck.

Way better than chemicals
Using this to control weeds. Works way better than cancer causing chemicals and super easy to use. Very well made. As other folks mention after you connect it to a propane tank SLOWLY open the propane tank valve. If opened too quickly the torch will not operate at full capacity. It’s a safety thing I’m sure just something to remember.Plus it’s soooo much fun to use! Bring on the marshmallows.

My first little flamethrower
Hooked it right up to my bbq tank ( your valve MUST have internal threads for this torch to attach, I suspect there may be some 1st gen tanks that don't ( hence the various complaints), but all modern propane fills are done with an internally threaded filler gizmo. New Propane tanks are cheap. Propane accidents are life changingyou can get too much flame thru it and have it blow itself out, so like any welding setup, it takes a little time to learn the ropes so to speak it's akin to an old propane torch that was touchy about being turned upside down, except its far far bigger and I'm sure its burning quite a bit of fuel, but anything not to have to be mixing dangerous herbicides and wearing a mask in this weather ( 105 today) and have to be constantly watching the wind direction. I can see this being handy for a number of jobscheck for leaks with soapy water before heading out to burn like anything else, this is assembled by humans and overlooking any errors and you'll challenger yourself right into an ER. Keep a big bucket of water or a hose handy while using and remember that roots can burn and often travel a long way ( like right under your wooden shed) most burn accidents are a result of roots burning long after you've called it a day.Plenty of tips on effective use of these tools on the web. Key tip, boiling weeds at the base kills just as effective as incinerating them

Pass
I would pass on this if i could do it again. Quality is fine, and it works, but... It's tempting to think this will make weeding fun, but for us, the weeds grew back quickly and more healthy. Also, stating the obvious, but i have to say its a little terrify in person. The flame is large and intense (it literally roars like a jet engine - you can hear it from a block away). The first time we used it the neighbor across the street to say he had burned a mature tree down with his, and the ppl behind us had burned their house down (!) a few years back w the same kind of flame weeder. Keep the hose near, and try the smaller version pls.

It's hot hot hot!
In the picture it's not even close to full blast. It did a damn good job getting rid of the weeds.

Would not buy again
Not worth the money & not powerful enough, I bought one from Harbor Freight for half the price with a auto lighter with much more power. After 1 month it would not work, they replaced it & I am not sold on it.

Buy your own Starter
The propane burner is quite good and the controls work well. The compression fitting for the tank takes a bit of effort to get seated but could just be a function of 'newness'. The spark starter that it comes with is garbage. Just throw it out and buy yourself a good quality one, or use your bic lighter.
