I received mine today and am unable to open them where they will cut. Can someone please tell me what I need to do. Thanks.

There is a safety lock at the bottom that you push up to unlock the miter shears. They could be broken. I ended up paying the extra money to get the better ones because this pair wouldn’t even cut a popsicle stick for me. I’ve read the reviews and some say theirs broke the first rime they used them.

Where do you buy replacement blades?

Not sure where all the places to buy the replacement blades are, but I got some from right here on Amazon!!!!

Would this cut a 1/2 inch dowel?

I'm sorry, but I don't think it will. I haven't tried them on things that large - only as large as 1/4 inch, but it doesn't seem that the jaws will open wide enuff to accomedate 1/2.
