Safari Park (MathStart 3)

Adding to 20
I like that this book deals with adding to 20, sharing, and an amusement park theme. It was the only MathStart book so far however that I skipped the math when previewing it. Frankly it was too much for my tired brain at the end of a long day because you are adding multiple columns of numbers (the numbers are all like 1, 2, 4 but still it was enough overwhelm to make me skip it and I love math). I wonder then how the kids will respond and if it will be too many numbers for them too.

Another winner by Stuart J. Murphy
My children (ages 6 and 4) and I enjoy most of the Stuart J. Murphy Math Start books that we have read. In each one there is a single math concept taught in the format of a read aloud book.In this one, a grandfather is taking his 5 grandchildren to the Safari Park on opening day. He has 100 tickets, but one child loses his. The others have to share one ride apiece with him.The story line is good. The pictures are cute and well-illustrated. The math concept taught here is finding an unknown for addition/subtraction facts. My children and I re-read all the books we own over and over. The children especially like Bigger, Better, Best! (MathStart 2) and Give Me Half! (MathStart 2) Perhaps the reason they like those is that the story line is about siblings interactions. But truthfully, we like all of them and read them on a regular basis.

A keeper
Teaches math as the characters spend their tickets at an amusement park. Very cute illustrations.Stuart J. Murphy throws in a bit of good values training -- the other kids in the family must help the child who lost his tickets, and in the end he helps them back.Great book -- does what you want a math reader to do (teach a little math). Best of all -- it's entertaining and they re-read it.This book is a winner.

Minimum value - Overpriced book
The material in the book was too basic and not worth the almost $10 (including shipping) that I paid for it. I did not the return it because my daughter said my grandson had liked reading it.

Great and educational !
My child is 6. This has been his favourite book since he was 4 despite having lots of books. Many wonderful details! Nice story and pictures.
