It does not. It does have a screen on the back so you can see what the front is reading. The Spectra Precisions CR600 has something similar to what you want.

is this compatable with all rotory laser levels?

It is "compatible" with all red beam rotary lasers, yes. However, not every feature of your non-Spectra Precision laser may be supported. For example, if you have a Topcon RL-H5A rotary laser level, the HL700 and other Spectra Precision and Apache laserometers will not alert you regarding the height alert (HI) or the low-battery alert that the Topcon laser sends out to the laser receiver. It is an annoyance yes, but not a showstopper for me, as I tend to keep an eye on my batteries and my rotary laser is usually not subject to anyone messing with it. But if you want total compatibility, including these two alerts, you will need to buy a Topcon laser receiver like the LS-100D (which is no where near as nice as this HL700).

Does anyone know the approximate horizontal angle of reception?

The reception angle for this laser receiver is plus or minus 45 degrees minimum.
