I love this knife and it is fast becoming my EDC ...
Something about Rosewood that I can't stay away from. I love this knife and it is fast becoming my EDC knife.Update:Had this knife for a month and a half now. I also own the smaller Twitch II, also in rosewood, that I carry when wearing shorts out walking and don't want extra weight in my pocket. But the XL is definitely my favorite EDC.At first, I found the kick opening to be too stiff. I thought about sending it back, but I worried I might get another with the same problem. So, after a careful analysis of what I determined the problem to be, I did some polishing using a dremel tool with narrow bit to get down to the offending part, which was the safety button rubbing too close to the opening mechanism. A bit of knife oil and this knife is now perfect. It is not TOO easy to deploy, which I don't want, especially when carrying in my pocket. No, it is what I would call "just right".This knife is heavy duty enough to be a serious weapon should you ever need it. It deploys so fast that you'll wonder how it is not classified as a switch blade. I've looked and handled dozens upon dozens of tactical knives, etc., all about the same size as the Twitch XL, and I honestly cannot find one that is better made, or better looking...... did I mention how good the rosewood feels? LOL

I love the knife so much I bought another for my ...
I love the knife so much I bought another for my son. When I kick the bucket my other son will have mine. Balance, ease of opening, rosewood. This is possession that must be handed down from generation to generation. SOG has a winner here and I will even give you my e-mail address if you want to hear this direct from the horse's mouth. The best knife I ever owned and I bet it will last many years after me. Good job SOG. Old John. [email protected]

A pretty good value knife
Design is very good if you overlook the totally nonfunctional thumb stud. Good workmanship if you are content with a little blade play which cannot be adjusted away and a flipper that is a little hard to release. Like the clip which provides for a deep carry but the design allows material to wedge between underside top of clip and scale making quick removal from pocket impossible. Good cutting tool with the AUS-8 stainless steel and hollow grind which takes a good edge. Mine was very sharp out of the box but would not cut paper the way it should. After stropping got the edge to be able to push cut paper. All in all a pretty good knife at a reasonable price. With a little improvement in design and workmanship along with a little higher price it could begin to compete with the higher quality knives like Spyderco.

Amazing Edge and hassle free customer service.
I bought a SOG Twitch XL 2 yrs ago and its still a great knife and is still sharp and I've NEVER sharpened it. It holds its edge even better than my smaller Twitch II also made by SOG. One issue with both versions I've owned is that the screws become loose, fall out and get lost. They require tightening with a star shaped screw driver maybe once or twice a year but on the upside all you have to do is email SOG and tell them you need screws and they'll send them to you no questions asked. Ive done this three times and never had to prove that I even owned a SOG knife..... Literally no questions asked just a reply that my screws are on the way. Great knife, great customer service, 5 stars.

Good looking knife but thumb stud is useless
The SOG TWI24-CP Twitch XL folding Knife with Rosewood handle is a nice looking knife. Quality steel and construction. Wood that is used in the handle is beautiful. The blade is utilitarian, and not a stupid useless double edge type that can only be used for fighting. This knife is a practical, everyday use type knife. The clip seems removable but I haven't tried removing it. It seems tricky. There are three things wrong about the knife. First is the useless safety lock feature. It is not in a good location - it is below the blade release push area. Such a lock should be near the blade point. Oily hands will make the currently location useless. Second - is the thumb stud to deploy the blade. It is absolutely useless. You cannot deploy the blade using only the thumbs stud. It is too difficult. The failure of the thumb stud is in it's design location. Too close to the blade pivot. The only way you can quickly deploy the blade is to use the push down lever in the back. This is where the Ken Onion Kershaw knives excel. Thumb stud release, rear push down lever, are both fast and easy to deploy. Blade lock is located at the tip of the knife blade. Yes, the SOG is a good looking knife, but unfortunately, I can't recommend this particular model. Good looks, with stupid engineering does not make a good knife.Update: 11-2-13I went to an Any Mountain store which had the EXACT same knife on display. I asked to look at it and the thumb stud assisted opening feature worked perfectly. Everything on the knife worked fine. This means that I received a defective knife. I purchased this knife from the Blade Shop and contacted them thru Amazon to see if they will send a replacement knife and a prepaid return label. I am lowering the rating to one star, until I receive the replacement.Update:11-9-13I sent an email to Amazon/Blade shop explaining the situation. The first email I received from them was the idiotic kind of letter that you get from companies that try to rip you off. I had specifically explained in my email that it was the functionality of the knife (thumb stud opening feature did not work) and specifically stated that it was NOT the cosmetics of the knife that was the problem. The moronic email response they sent was requesting pictures of the knife. I got pissed off and sent another email requesting that a person who understood English read my complaint. Finally, someone who understood English read the email, and they apologized and sent me a functionally working knife with a prepaid label and bag to return the defective knife. I sent them another email with the USPS tracking number and other information to inform them that the return is on route. The replacement SOG knife functions as it should. I can open it with the thumb stud or with the rear push down lever. However, the spring assist is not as good as compared to the Kershaw Ken Onion Leek knife. The SOG knife does not seem to snap open as fast which indicates that the spring is not as strong, or again, the knife they sent was dysfunctional. The SOG knife itself is beautiful cosmetically, but the spring assist functionality, I believe, is INFERIOR compared to most other knifes such as Kershaw or CRKT or Gerber knives, OR worse they are lowering their quality standards. I give this SOG knife a rating of two stars out of five. The first star was lost because they sent a dysfunctional knife. The second star was lost because of the poor attitude of Amazon/Blade shop when they responded to my email. The third star was lost because the customer (me) had to go through all of these hassles when initially, they should of sent me a perfectly working knife in the first place.Update 11/11/13:I've contacted the SOG company directly by email complaining about the poor spring assisted mechanism of this knife when using the thumb stud. I am hoping that they will reply and respond to my email. They are an American company and I expect superior service from them. I asked them if there is anything technically wrong with the design of the knife and if there is any way to make the thumb stud blade deployment any faster and more powerful. My Kershaw Tanto Blur is a larger heavier knife and it opens with minimal force using the thumb stud. I will update this again to let everyone know how well SOG deals with supporting their products.Update 01/22/14I've owned this knife for about 4 months now. SOG never returned my email. I've come to the conclusion that SOG makes good assisted opening knives if you like using the "kick" to deploy the blade, but is only okay when using the thumb stud - specially regarding this model. It just doesn't have the speed and the authority, or what I call "snap" when deploying the blade using the thumb stud compared to a Kershaw or Gerber assisted opening knife. My final star rating is one star. Yes it is a harsh rating, but deservedly so. From all the general reviews regarding the SOG brand of knives, I expected this one to be a 5 star right off the bat. With all the hassles of getting one that worked using the thumb stud, then finding out that the blade deployment via thumb stud is not as good as a Kershaw or Gerber, then emailing SOG and never getting a response, I feel 1 star is an appropriate rating, just for the looks of the knife.

Great rich folding knife
The XL is a great size and much thinner than I anticipated. Love the looks and quality. blade is super sharp. wood grain is rich and thin so you can fit in pocket easily even in the XL size. I play with it everywhere I go just because I love it. in my pocket all the time. overall great quality and construction and a nice aesthetic look.
