This locomotive looks great, and has really good details for the price. It will need some minor work before it will run smoothly, however.First thing is to remove the grease that it comes with, as it is does not let the gears run smoothly, and use an appropriate grease. Next is to very lightly lubricate the sliding/rotating parts of the running gear. Doing that will really help it be less jerky and make it run nearly silent. Now, the biggest issue I found required me to completely remove the gearbox. The loco stopped moving and sounded like gears were grinding. Turns out the factory did not tighten the screws that hold the motor in place, and it had moved. This made the worm gear lose contact with the drive gears. Once I pushed the motor back into place and tightened all the screws the loco now runs flawlessly.Oh, and the couplers are the low type, so they might not couple correctly to other cars.

A great model for the price
I bought this to have something self-contained and rough-and-ready to run outdoors as winter approached in Buffalo, New York. It fulfills that expectation just fine after a little bit of tuning and adjusting. The packaging is minimal, and the model bounced around in shipping, but everything popped back in place just fine. The appearance of the model is fine and it is well detailed, but the instructions are a fine example of Chinglish and it took imagination to figure out the radio functions. I adjusted the gauge of the pilot and trailing wheelsets and took the sharp edge off the driver flanges with some 320 grit Carborundum paper. It did not fun well out of the box. I took the gear cover off and one of the axle bushings was out of place, so I put it where it belonged. In doing so I lifted up the front axle and when it re-seated the gear engaged one tooth over from before. This greatly improved performance and removed almost all of the "hitch" as it moved. I lubricated the bearings and gears and it now runs well. The range on the speed control is narrow, so it takes a careful hand to run it slowly. Having said all this, nit was easy to tweak and rewarding. It us now a good runner and a fun model to let friends run on my deck track.

Great Locomotive For the Money
A great sculpting of a Chinese version of a German LGB train. It will run consistently; however, it is quirky. You have to be subtle with the controls or it will jump right off the track. Also it runs better in reverse. If you are running remote controlled trains, this is the one. LGB does not have remote control versions of this train, that I know of. Nobody else does either. It has lots of detailing, and there is potential for upgrading with LGB parts. I like this one.
