I struggled for an hour with pry bars and hammers before running to auto zone to buy a puller. That one didn’t have the range to wrap my flywheel even though it was a 7” puller because of the curve in the hooks. I then found this one for half the price which I knew would work because of the straight/vertical hooks. I greased the threads, but some tension on it and whacked the flywheel with a hammer. It popped up about 1 foot in the air, worked like a charm. No way I was getting that thing off without the proper tool.

This unit is solid, basic and works. It was too big for my application so I found and bought the 6" version but I'm keeping this one too. Someone else was complaining about rust on the unit, and yes, there was a little bit. (pictured) Kind of ridiculous to complain about this much, it's a work tool! It has no impact functionality at all, and the chrome parts were fine.

This is a hefty unit. I was worried about bending the hub I needed to pull. If you also see a puller on Amazon with a built in bar to rotate the center shaft, I bought both. That kind is not meant for heavy work and will bend and strip, as I discovered. You want one expecting a little cranking down with a big wrench.

I bought this to remove the flywheel on a Honda Harmony II lawn mover. It's a 7+ " diameter aluminum casting and stuck on there good. I needed a two claw puller because the casting is stronger at only two points - where the magnet is and the built-up part directly across from it to offset the magnet weight. The ball on the end fit the shaft dimple nicely and the torque screw moves freely. Within a half hour from the mailbox my flywheel popped off after 15 years with just a moderate bump from the air impact wrench. A little ant-seize compound on the new hub for the new one and air impacted the new hub right back on. Love it.

+ easy to assemble and disassembly (seconds)+ smooth thread on bolt, just add a bit of grease+ hooks are very handy for my application (pulling off shaft in lawn mover)+ It works fine, just do not overload. Packaging does not stay pulling capacity. My estimation 2 ton. If you need heavy duty go with Bosch OTC pullers $$$.

I knew this was a cheap tool when I bought it it was supposed to be a couple time use and then I would just throw it in the drawer and get it out occasionally once or twice a year if needed for something. But the construction of it is so poor I'm not even going to use it the first time I'm going to return it. The load bar and screw are basically rusted they were never oiled after they were cast or forged and then the pulling hooks are coated with something that looks like matte finished Chrome. Whatever the coating is similar to Chrome it's flaking off and if you've ever used a chrome-coated tool where the Chrome is flaking off it's like using a tool that's covered in broken glass one wrong move and you're stabbed splintered or sliced by the coating peeling off. Made poorly, dangerous to operate, it must be returned.
