I'll never go back
Before this i was using charcoal discs that took, maybe a minute or two with an open flame to light. My thumbs are calloused from burning my finger on the lighter (I've since gotten a butane cigar torch for lighting these) These really do take to an instant. I would recommend having the charcoal in tongs or already in a dish before lighting because it does spark for a quick second or two. And then it's lit. It's as easy as that. I have to admit, they're smaller than other charcoal discs I'm used to, thus they don't last as long (sometimes that can be a good thing bc you gotta be dedicated to at least 30 mins if yoy want to burn a charcoal disc) but these are definitely smokier for a longer duration than non instant. These seem to burn way hotter as the resin burns a lot quicker. Idk what people are complaining about with chemical smell, when I loaded it up with frankincense it smelled just fine? And I have a very sensitive sense of smell, especially keen on unnatural smells and I found nothing wrong with these? Maybe that's just my experience. I have seen reviews for other charcoal discs that were just very ignorant on how to use them and I figured I would give some tips. Get a censer or like me, a small cast iron bowl to put your charcoal disc in. Get some cheapy wooden coasters somewhere and use that to put the censer or bowl on as you see in my photo. This will prevent the bowl or censer from marking your furniture :) Beware, after your charcoal disc has burned out, allow the censer or bowl to cool for at least 30 minutes. This will prevent you from burning yourself. You can sometimes save the ash if you're going to be using non instant charcoal, setting it on ash will help insulate it and help it burn :) These get very smoky. I recommend venting your space as much as possible, or if you're like me and can't burn inside because of your pets, go outside and place it on a stable surface like a table. Watch put for wind and have fun. Sometimes to put a charcoal disc out, instead of dousing it with water, you can crush it with a stick or pestal depending on how far along it is. Doing the above will create ash and charcoal dust. (Something often needed for charcoal drawings) If you're artsy, this can be a unique art medium. Tl;dr good product, cant complain. Wish they were bigger. Also I was expecting to get 10. Not 100. That's value.

Wonderful performance
Wonderful performance! Everything you would expect from a quality product, especially for a surprisingly low price! I was new to burning resins & using charcoal when I stumbled across this box of coals. Knowing nothing about this nature of product, I was very fascinated by the line or ring of fire that works from one end to the next as it lites. When my friends had seen them, I was told they had looked for similar products with no luck for their hookas. I feel I lucked up to have found them & have been very pleased with my purchase made in January 2020. I am now purchasing my 2nd box. I'm on my final briquette from my last order from almost 2 yrs. ago. BUT as I started to get low, I began breaking them in 1/2, 1/3 when I knew that I wouldn't need them for an extended period of time. Even though broken in half, they still light with that "ring of fire".

Reliable, easy to light, burns well
I've never used Starlight brand charcoals before, but now that I have, I won't be going back to any other brand. These lit fast on the first try, burned evenly with no weird charcoal chip left over as has happened with other brands, and handled my homemade powdered incense (which is a mix of ground resins, essential oils and ground herbs) with ease, which is really saying something since it's a very heavy, dense mix that has caused other charcoals to falter and stop burning. When I run out of these - which will take a good bit of time - I will definitely reorder the Starlight brand. A note for customers who live in more humid climates, like me - make sure you're putting your open roll in an air tight plastic bag as humidity can effect how well charcoals light and burn.

An Excellent Product for incense burners.
An excellent excellent product for burning incense. I gave it only 4 stars due to some necessary cautions with these charcoals. The light easily and burn evenly and completely leaving a white ash. They will burn for 50 minutes to more than an hour. CAUTION: These are best lighted with a butane lighter or pipe lighter. Anything that will direct a flame at a top edge. Once the self igniting begins and starts sparkling across the surface keep your face completely away until the self ignition is done. The smoke from the chemicals is extremely irritating to the eyes. Also on Rare occasions a tiny bit of hot charcoal can blow off the tablet during the ignition phase. With these cautions in mind though these charcoals are a good buy and good quality.

A unique lighting feature. Burns hot, stays hot. Very pleased.
Starlight Charcoal, 1 Box, 10 Rolls, 100 Tablets This review is for the 10 roll, 100 count package of Starlight Charcoal tablets. I noticed many of the negative reviews do not apply to this particular item. Always look for verified purchase mention on a review for the most accurate information. These discs are much larger than I expected. The center section, where the material to be burned will set, is the size of an American quarter. The discs are just over 1 1/2". To begin, simply place the charcoal disc on a flame/heat-proof surface, and hold a match or other flame to the side of the disc. You should notice a tiny spark, and will hear a crackling sound as the tiny sparks begin to progress across the disc. Place an incense cone, chunk of resin or other intended material upon the disc, and enjoy the fragrance. The disc will not light on fire, but rather, will spark and burn within. Give it a gentle blow, and you will see the glow of heat. It is lit. *NOTE* You may think the disc is not lit, but don't make the mistake of touching it. When they are lit, they are HOT! If in doubt, gently blow on the disc, which, if lit properly, should glow as a standard charcoal briquet would. No matter what you use to place the disc upon, remember that the base will become very hot as well. I use large rocks which are then set upon a metal candle stand. Keep the discs in a cool, dry place, free of sources for heat and flame. Keep away from children and pets. Though 100 discs will last a long time, I will definitely be back for more of these.

Very good!
These are very nice charcoal discs. They burn for a REALLY long time - I went to take a 30 minute shower after lighting one and the thing was still burning and not even half used. Burns loose herbs/incense blends very, very well. Have not tried with resin yet. Remember to exercise fire safety when using these - tongs are a good idea, but if you use your hands, only hold ONE end of the disc while you light the other. When you see the sparks go in a line across the disc toward your fingers, put it down in the burner. You will need to have a fire-safe container to put this in or something else fire-safe that you can use, or use a burner with a grate on top. If you're using a cauldron or non-grated burner, use sand, rice, or any saved ash from old incense/discs to absorb the heat. You don't want these tiny cauldrons to overheat and harm the surface they're on. Perhaps invest in some sort of plate to lay it on that's also heat-safe - mine got hot rather quickly and I was concerned about the table.

Great with Frankincense, Myrrh, and Copal Resins
I love to use this with Frankincense, Myrrh, and Copal resins. Tip: Over time, they can absorb some moisture and get harder to light, so I put them in my toaster oven on the light setting to dry them out and restore them to easy lighting. It works like a charm! Just be careful not to over toast or they could light in the toaster! Also, you can store them in an air-tight container with some desiccant. Another tip: the easy lighting feature gives off some slight chemical smell at the beginning. It's not that bad - just like matches or similar. If you are sensitive to it, start them in a place with good ventilation - I use the ventilation hood above my stove. After a couple minutes it becomes virtually odorless and is ready for the incense resin to be put on top. Start with a small pea-sized or less chunk and see how it goes. You may need to chop the resin up e.g. with a kitchen knife. Try different resins as they are not all created equal. You may also try herbs such as sage leaves or lavender buds.

They do not light instantly and release a strong chemical odor for a few minutes
There is a chemical stench from whatever they use for "instant lighting". I find this to be pointless since I have found they do not light instantly anyways. I have to hold them over a taper candle for about 30 seconds to get them to ignite. Once lit and the chemical smell wears off, they do burn nice and hot.
