ATK164 Classmate Pattern

This sewing tote project is easy to make till you get to the binding part, my sister said. But I am experienced with sewing and quilting and didn't have too much trouble. The instructions are step by step and I loved it because I feel like I learned more thanjust making this sewing tote. I feel like I could take the methods in this pattern and make pretty much any kind of tote I wanted to create. I have made three of these sewing totes! Recently I made some cute little bags from a different pattern with not so good instructions that didn't turn out so well. So, I used what I learned from this Atkinson Designs pattern to alterthe little bag pattern and the last one turned out so much better! Atkinson Designs really did a wonderful job writing this pattern! It is a pattern and a bag construction teaching tool as well.

This is a wonderful design, easy to make and a great gift idea. I will use this over and over again.

A fabulous pattern can be cut and sewn in a day. I have made this so many times and this pattern was purchased and gifted as I love it so much. I have photocopied my original as it was getting so tatty with usage. Overall, the time I've had it, I've made and gifted well over 50. Thanks for an awesome, go to pattern.

I bought this patter with the intention of making a couple for Christmas gifts. I made one for myself as a practice and to workout any kinks in the directions. I’m glad I did. The cutting directions are a bit confusing and not an efficient use of fabric (though I don’t think I could have gotten away with less fabric, I could have had larger scrap pieces and used less interfacing fabric). The directions are good, but I did have to do a fair amount of seam ripping on my first classmate. Great attention to lining up fabric edges and maintaining seam allowances is necessary to have binding go on correctly. I had to do some significant trimming before I was able to attach the binding. Each classmate took me six to seven hours to complete — I’m not the fastest nor am I the slowest sewers, I figure that my times are pretty average.I do recommend the classmate if your looking for a way to organize your sewing tools for taking to class. There are several pockets to keep things organized and to remind you of what you brought to class so you aren’t apt to leave things behind.

I love this pattern I have made a caddy and have received many compliments from friends. It is great if you are an experienced sewer, but might be a little challenging for a newbie.

This pattern makes a wonderful bag. You must follow the instructions exactly. I purchased more of her patterns.
