Wish it didn't have sexist language and ideas
I'm a 4th grade teacher, and so I can see the appeal of this series to boys steeped in a Wimpy Kid sensibility. On the plus side, the author does great things with similes, and his main character is fairly well developed and addresses his emotional ups and downs. On the negative side, the author perpetuates some negative tropes about the differences between boys and girls. For instance, when searching for the missing love interest, the main character says, "Let's try the mall. Girls like the mall, right? That's a thing."The worst example is when the main character tries to convince his friend to keep a monster as a pet. After the friend declines, the character says, "Quint, I hear you telling me no. But I think, I'm pretty sure, your eyes are telling me yes." And then he takes the monster into the house. That's the stereotypical line leading up to date rape, so why is it showing up in boys' literature right in the middle of the Me-Too era? If it goes to a second print, maybe the publisher can edit this kind of stuff out. Otherwise, it's a great series for boys.

My son is a pretty common 12yo boy
As bought as my review will sound, it's genuine. My son is a pretty common 12yo boy. He's always on the move, getting dirty and paying war with any action figure he can find when he is not playing video games. He can't get enough minecraft for example.I have my done this book as a birthday gift this past November and he finished it in a few weeks. The first time I've gotten him to read a book without it seemingly come across as punishment. He loved it and can express what was going on in the book with excitement and mystery in his voice. It's been a pleasure. Thank you Max Brallier

Nicer read than Wimpy Kid or Dog Man
My 2nd grade son likes these books a lot. We were turned onto them by the show on Netflix. The books have a nice combination of writing and some neat black and white drawings in each chapter (see picture).Even though it's dealing with monsters and zombies during a monster apocalypse where it seems all adults have been turned into zombies, the language and way things are written is a little more kid friendly/parent approved. What I mean by that is there's not a lot of instances where kids are calling each other names, like jerk or something else. It also doesn't give bad ideas or toilet humor around certain subjects the way that Dairy of a Wimpy Kid or Captain Underpants does. Additionally, it's a nicer read and teaches vocabulary better than something like Dog Man where the word choice is written from the perspective of a kid who doesn't know the correct tenses of words.Overall, asong as you can get around the topic of zombies and monsters, I like the book series better than the ones mentioned above.

for writing this amazing book. I was having the hardest time getting ...
I want to thank Max Brallier, for writing this amazing book. I was having the hardest time getting my 11 year old son to read, he got this book 2 days ago and he was finish last night. He was so excited talking about this book, it filled my heart with so much joy because I never saw him excited about a book. He is so disappointed that he has to wait until August for the next installment. Again thank you Mr. Brallier

Non reader kid LOVED THIS BOOK!
My nephew is 11 years old and he has been having issues at school because he hates to read. His teacher has tried many many books, he thinks everything is boring. My sister asked me for help finding a book I think he would actually read because I love books. So, I ordered this one and sent it to him. He received it last weekend and HE ALREADY FINISHED IT! it's only been six days, six days of school, after school, and sports practice. That's how much he loved it. He has called me multiple times to tell me how funny it is and how he can't put it down. He even took it outside for school recess and sat and read instead of running around. GET THIS BOOK FOR A KIDDO IN YOUR LIFE. I literally just ordered him the second one, hope he loves that one too.

Zombie fun
What I thought would be an adventure book for my son, has turned into a love of the zombie world. With so many books and TV shows with zombies this was easy for him to get into. The kids in the book are smart and show a lot of bravery. There is a real super villain in the series, but most of the story is about the kids learning how to get along and survive the zombies. The book is very imaginative and has us wanting to read the next installment. Don't let the title worry you.

4th grader gave it 5 stars
My son is in 4th grade and he is just starting to enjoy reading. As a child who has suffered from dyslexia, reading was something he avoided at all times. Recently he's been obsessed with zombies, so when I saw an ad for this book... I "1 clicked" it. He started the book a few times and kept putting it down, he want a fan of the beginning. But once he got beyond that and into the meat of the book, he was hooked. He read 75% of he book in one evening when he usually can only read about 50 pages in that time frame. He gave it 5 stars and said that 95% of the book is WAY better than Diary of the Wimpy Kids books. I will purchase the next one for him.

Fun First Book in a Series
Jack Sullivan is just a normal middle schooler, except for the fact that he is living in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse. He spends his day killing zombies, photographing monsters, exploring his wasteland of a town & sheltering away in his tricked out treehouse. Jack is loving his post-apocalyptic life except for the fact that he is all alone. How long can a Middle Schooler stand living in isolation? Surely there has to be some other humans out there. This was such a great first book to a series. Max Brallier hooked me from the very beginning with a fast changing adventure. All of my 5th grade boys absolutely adored this series and I completely understand why. I would suggest this to anyone remotely interested in apocalyptic literature.

The Last Kids (not goats) On Earth
Great story, really good - my son loved it.I thought it was about the over farming of goats which are due to go extinct in 2050, but my son tells me it’s not.

If you are a 9-13 kid and you love adventure books than this is the book for you! It’s full of hilarious jokes, twists and turns and a whole lot of monsters! I also recommend the other 2 books in the series ( this is the first book).

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
I would recommend this book for kids 7 and under. A very creativly written and illustrated book. The only book scene for older ages was the flashback near the beginning , which has a slight spook to it. DEFO read for kids.
