Dita's beauty bible!
I was blown away by this book. For $24 it was a bargain. It was huge, the pages were glossy, the pictures were gorgeous and she covered practically everything. There was even a chapter on eyebrows! I love Dita because she's a sexy glamour powerhouse that started as an ordinary mid-western girl with big dreams. I admire the fact that she's very much in control of her career and image. She even does her own hair and make up most of the time. Despite all this, she remains humble and down to earth. All of this shows in the pages of this book. I very much agree with her take on beauty being created. I'm a lingerie consultant like Dita used to be and I can't tell you how many women I've fitted in that dressing room that have apologized to me for some perceived body flaw of theres. Small chested women want to be bigger and bustier women want to be smaller. We are all different! Many of the insecurities women have are due to society pressuring them to look a certain way, not just for the eyes and pleasure of men but to compete with other women. It's a sad state of affairs. Whatever you want to change and however you want to look should first and foremost be for you. Dita talks about this in her chapter on cosmetic surgery which I find very empowering for women. We are constantly bombarded with images of female celebrities looking seemingly perfect and being glorified and worshiped like goddesses for doing so with headlines that have some of version of "You need to look like this and here's how". Dita makes it clear that you don't need to look like her. She tells you her secrets and routines but your hair is not hers, your skin is not hers, your body is not hers but you can certainly find what works for your hair, skin and body.

I feel like I don't even look at myself in the same ...
I'd known who Dita was before I bought this book, but hadn't really taken a serious interest in her or her burlesque work. I was looking for some inspiration for making myself over and never realized in a million years that this would be the thing. I feel like I don't even look at myself in the same way, and I love how much this book has helped me find my eccentric beauty and bring it out. Case in point, I have a beauty mark of my own by my lips, but always hid it because I found it a nuisance. It took Dita, who boldly had a beauty mark tattooed on her face, to make me realize something that I had taken for granted could be transformed into fashion. I intend to keep this book as a part of my permanent library and can't recommend it enough.

Shimmering tribute to femininity & glamour
I've never seen a professional burlesque show, but Ms. Von Teese certainly makes me want to! I'm her complete opposite: blond, socially conservative, and work in a career that requires suppression of sexuality and most femininity (out of consideration for my patients' feelings). This excellent and well-planned book has more useful information than I expected when I added it to my "style shelf". While her focus is vintage glamour (obviously), she also includes interviews with current "beauty-eccentrics", descriptions of her own image-crafting techniques, encouraging anecdotes, and fun historical facts about beauty. The book is quite heavy with beautiful photographs; you won't mind that most of them are of Ms. Von Teese because they are exceptionally beautiful. I'll never be able to indulge my Hollywood Glamour fantasies routinely, but this book shows a glittering world of femininity presented by a woman who is "feet on the ground"--even when they are perched in a giant martini glass.

I've been a licensed cosmetologist for over 10 years and I STILL found great tips in here for hair and makeup
I literally ran into my building when I got home from work, tore open the package, and began reading. There is SOOO much information in this book, regardless of liking Dita, its a valuable read. I've been a licensed cosmetologist for over 10 years and I STILL found great tips in here for hair and makeup, as well as styling, working out and staying fit, dressing, and general advice. Im in love with this book so much, and I cant wait to read more tonight! The photos are so beautiful, clear and crisp. The only issue is my book did have some small blemishes on the front cover, and a small tear in a page as soon as I opened it from shipping.

Fabulous Book That Makes Glamour Every Minute, Every Day, Easy! My Go To Manual
This is an amazing book! You get a fabulous history of beauty, step by step instructions on makeup, recommendations on products she finds helpful, and even stretches! I forgot the exercise part in here. She hold nothing back, ladies, and does it with such style and grace. She even shows how to re-use antique compacts and lipstick tubes, which I am doing now. She also really inspired me to wear sunscreen every minute of every day. I enjoyed the interviews with her dermatologist and other people and performers she has friended along the way. The book itself is glamorous. It is oversized, has wonderful glossy pages, and beautiful photography. I know I am forgetting half of what I wanted to say about this book. She advocates glamour, every minute, every day, and shows how easy it really is to be glamorous in your own special way. Keep up the fabulous work, Dita! Order this book. You will not be disappointed.

Superb!
I didn't buy this for the hair and makeup tips, but for the philosophy. I've sometimes been uncomfortable about my love of beauty and style - and about the gulf between my plain, natural self and my scrubbed-up, glammed-up alter ego, and Dita has given me courage and clarity. She is an inspiration , totally comfortable in her own skin, and committed to the creation of a beauty that others may call artificial. But Dita values artifice, and for her, beauty is an art form to be celebrated. Beauty is a way of life for her, and she is incredibly generous in her encouragement for others to follow that path. Another major plus is that she genuinely celebrates older women. You won't find any patronising advice here about toning down your look and wearing less makeup after you pass 40! Thank God! There are plentiful contributions from other experts, but make no mistake, Dita has written his book herself, in a wry, charming style. Cultural references and gorgeous photographs abound, making this sophisticated, fun book worth every penny.

I now own the brightest red lipstick :-)
My husband was (or maybe still is ;-)) a big Dita Von Teese fan and that is where I first heard about her. Over the years I have always thought she was an intriguing person as well as very sensual. Her book is so interesting and has so much packed in it that I found really interesting. Her style is classy and sophisticated and also timeless. She takes great care of herself and it is almost unbelievable that she would entertain drinking alcohol. She talks openly about many things and one in particular was about her struggle with her skin problems. She does seem to have lovely skin but she also explains all the hard work she puts into keeping it looking so lovely. I have taken notes and have already made changes to my facial routine and one being to use moisturiser on a daily bases. She really stands out in a crowd and has her own unique style that I admire so much. One of the stories she tells is about how she went to some event and dressed down, wore a long brown wig and jeans and the photographer asked her to move out of the way so he could take pictures of other people that were there. That for me stuck out and shows that she really enjoys being unique, different and has a style all of her own.She does not copy anyone else but clearly has a style that was inspired by Marilyn Monroe. She speaks briefly about her marriage to Marilyn Manson too.I am very pleased with this book and my daughter is keen to read it too. I feel it is for all ages and her beauty tips are very helpful and practical too.

For persons who want to add a bit of sparkle and glamour in their lives
This is a really high quality production, a lot of effort has gone into this book it has beautiful illustrations and photographs is jammed packed with advice and tips. The book is essentially the author Dita Von Teese personal beauty routine, it can be adapted by people of other ethnicity or enable them to recreate themselves and bring a bit of glamour into their lives. Dita is very slender with curve as opposed to skinny size 0 model types. Sensibly advises the reader to wear clothes that are good quality handmade if you can afford,or vintage. Vintage tend to be smaller so you may find yourself needing to learn how to become a good seamstress and make your own clothes. This book is good for anyone who take a pride in their personal experience and Goddesses, Cosmetologist, Aesthetics Practitioners, Beauty Therapist, Make-up Artist, Dancers, Fashion students and aspiring entrepreneurial.

This Book Is About Embracing All Women
If you are untreated in how to do 1940's styles, clothing wise and make up. If you want to read about various style icons in their own right, Inhighly recommend this book. This books is so different from other beauty books in that it is so, detailed. The author Dita Von Reese writes it from a perspective of love and admiration as she herself, is a style icon of 1940's style. Another thing I love about this book is how empowering it is to all women. In your 20's, 3O's 60+. You can still be beautiful and enjoy life to the full.

Know what you are worth
I got this book when I was many problems and difficulties in my life. When I started to read it, it made me feel alive and appreciate myself more. You will get inspired and motivatived from this book to work on yourself and make you more attractive and beautiful.I always though that Dita Von Teese is just a burlesque dancer, but I found out she is very educated and clever women and she knows “price for herself”. One of my favorite books now! I recommend this book for everyone, who has low confidence. Honestly, this book will change your mind about yourself (in a good way of course!)!!
