Well Made Aggressive Froe
I just recieved two days after placing the order. Big thumbs up! After careful inspection of both the blade and handle, I find the blade very stout with an agressive angle on the edge. The edge has the proper sharpness for splitting. The weld on the handle ring is very well done. The handle was turned from exceptionally straight wood and should last a very long time. They provide a hole in the handle ring to use a screw for additional security of the handle...if this product is used correctly this is unnecessary. However, if you choose to use the the screw provided, you MUST pre drill the hole to the diameter of the screw shaft and it is advisable to place a small dab of soap on the screw threads before inserting screw in hole. This is VERY hard wood and you are apt to snap the screw if you don’t. I believe I will be using this froe for a very long time!

Seems to be made well, I think the higher ...
Seems to be made well, I think the higher priced ones would appear much more authentic, it that's important to you. I bought this to spilt kindling and small logs when trying to use an axe is overkill but a hatchet is too small. Some sort of holding device for the wood is very handy, that or a third hand!

Not at all worth it.
I don't usually slam tools, but this thing was a total waste. The bevel is too steep, doesn't take an edge, and really just plain didn't work. Of course this could all be attributed to using it on feisty wood, but let's just say it didn't work.

It works well, but I broke it way before I thought I could.
I used this on 2 large chunks of cedar, approximately 4' long by over 40" round. got about half way through the rounds and the weld on the blade broke and the handle no longer stays seated. The blade is still more than sharp enough to continue, I'm glad it was so inexpensive but I was only able to get 12 or 13 hours of use out of it.

Great froe, Well built, and will make you appreciate buying shingles.
I split hundreds of shingles with this already and it is a really durable unit with a proper splitting grind on the business end. Handle is tapered and long enough to swing the mallet into it to split logs. Great purchase if you know it's intended use.

Good for the price
Its a froe. Solid steel, and decently sharp. We'll see how the handle holds up. So far so good.

A froe shaped object...
Cheap froe-metal section SEEMS OK, but steel is imported and of unknown type. Though sharp upon arrival, the edge dulled rapidly after three strikes with a maul-did not split the piece of cherry (6" long!), barely left an indented mark. The handle is junk, does not even resemble vintage mauls I've used-upon striking the steel, it should seat further onto the wood handle. This froe does not, as the handle is not properly shaped. Look at other fries and only buy this one for decoration!
