This could have been a good book, it also could have been one book. The author uses way too many words to describe everything and it almost makes it a chore to read. I honestly barely skimmed the last several chapters because I couldn't take it anymore.

The first book made me feel like I was reading a thesaurus
I'm halfway through the book and find this one to be more enjoyable - and MUCH easier to read - than the first. The first book made me feel like I was reading a thesaurus. This one was much more reader-friendly. Do not - I repeat - do NOT attempt to read this book before reading the first one. You WILL be lost. I also find it troubling that she doesn't go in a more chronological order in this book, or that she doesn't start off each chapter with a year so you can kind of gauge the time frame of when the happenings are occurring. I still have to say, though, I'm really enjoying the book and can't wait to continue reading.

Something to think about...
The chronology was frustrating, yes. When you are excited for the plot to continue it jumps back and then forth again. Especially toward the end. Too much philosophy in between incidents? Probably. Yes, it was somewhat dragged out. But, I loved it anyway! As the book went on I accepted Andrea's writing style as part of who she is.This book changed me on a deeper level. A few of the situations really got me thinking about our existence, spirituality, and realms we do not understand. Are we all connected in some way? Should we have more peace within ourselves knowing that things in our lives are as they should be, no matter how difficult? I don't know, but I know it took me to a deeper level of awareness.I loved the Perron family. I was sad that the parents were becoming distant and I felt that some of the father's behavior, especially after the seance, may have been due to the evil presence. I guess the family did not see this, though I don't understand how they could not.I sadly wondered if some of the spirits needed their mysteries to be solved to find peace. I felt that the Seven dead soldiers in the wall were crying out for help and the little boy too. Are their bodies buried somewhere on the property and need to be discovered for proper burial in order to cross over? I felt they needed help in some way, but did not receive it. The family did not get the proper help, if there was any, for themselves and the spirits. Though I did wonder what would have happened if the seance had not been stopped. Oh, and Mrs. Warren, please give Carolyn back all of her research! As another reviewer stated, I too felt a connection to this family and the farm. I totally understand our connection to nature. Makes me want to packs my bags and move to the country! I felt that fate brought the Perron family to live in the house for reasons that may never be clear. But I do believe that everything happens for a reason and this was meant for them. Finally, I have to say, that I enjoyed the movie, but it was not like the book. It lacks the depth and ALOT is missing and off the mark.

repetitive
I'm in the process of reading this book now. I had just finished the first book. I see a lot of repetitive comments from the first book. I find when she describes someone it is almost a whole page. I started looking at it and thinking she could have left most of this out and still gotten her point across. When she mentions her one sister having a seance and then another sister doing the same it seems both times were blamed on the friends. Her beautiful, smart, wonderful, perfect, absolutely adorable, little sisters would never do something like. Boo, who's in the room. I wanted to scream every time I read that. Sorry had to do it. If you read the books you know what I mean. I feel she was really padding the books. Maybe that's why it took 2(3) books to write this story. Did she read her own book before she published? I surprised I haven't read that much of her saying a house alive with death yet. I will make myself get to the end but I am not sure if I will read book 3 when it comes out and I do hate leaving it unfinished.

unsure
well, I bought the first book, and honestly, I liked it. there were things in it that shook me up pretty good and that's hard to do.one night I was trying to find something to watch and I came across a movie, "a haunting in Ga." as I sat and watched it, I could not help but notice that so much of book one was nearly word for word of that movie. can two cases be that much alike? the same stuff? same way it happened?is that possible? well, it kinda ruined me reading book 2. I paid alot for both books, and I kinda feel like I wasted my money. I didn't feel like that till I happened to watch that movie, and I felt like it was just a copy. made me feel stupid for believing book one. I'm not saying things didn't happen, all I'm saying is, maybe stuff was added to make it more interesting and to sell books and a movie.

Excellent read, highly recommend...
Ordered the electronic copy for my Fire. Thus far, the series is good. Ms Perron's writing style is a bit verbose, but overall, the storyline is a good one and good for a fright. Read after dark, if you enjoy that sort of thing. You won't be disappointed. The movie version is actually more dissimilar to these events than I thought. The "true" events (depending upon your belief) are indeed much more intense than the film...and I LOVED the movie, so...

Interesting, thought provoking & sometimes scary
Andrea Perron is a fantastic writer and her use of words is done very well however this book is not nonstop scariness. A lot of the terminology gets you to think about good & evil, life & death, light & dark, past & present etc etc. The author truly has a true gift with words to get you to think about all the Yin's & Yang's of our universe especially with life & The Afterlife along with good & evil. There are scary events documented throughout the book but I wouldn't consider this a true horror book, more a philosophical book about life after death.

Better than the first volume, fascinating story
A continuation of the Harrisville Haunting story.Things I liked:- This volume was much more readable than the first volume. The author seems to have relaxed and found a style, there are less overused stylistic phrases (message:received, house alive with death, the woman, the man etc), the wordiness has been toned down, and there is less hopping about in terms of timeline. Still some, but less.- More anecdotal stories are told in this; it mainly hops from occurence to occurence. These parts are very well written and quite absorbing.- You really get a sense of the house and the land.Reservations:- Starts off really slow with far too many poems etc. I almost put it down because of this. Later on, verse introduces and ends each chapter, but you can just skip these, which is better.- Still hops around a bit and repeats stories. Also mentions people we have never been introduced to, or were introduced to so long ago we have forgotten, such as Billy. Who is Billy? No idea.- I do think this could have been condensed into one book, as there is a lot of rumination and repetition. It would be more accessible if that was the case.Summary: Still needs a good edit but better written and complied than the first volume. Very interesting if such subjects are of interest to you.

Story has great potential , no timeline , no editing , too repetitive . Shame as the story is good :(
This could be a most amazing book , it is not edited , or badly edited , I couldn't tell which . It also repeats events a lot , the story jumps from begining to end to middle and back again giving no sense of timeframe . I was desperate toRead this but was disappointed not by the story but by the delivery of it . Poems , phrases , way too descriptive of places instead of incidents . With proper editing this could be a fantastic read but sadly it is instead difficult to read . Found myself flipping forward as I had already heard parts numerous times before .Basically borrow it , DO NOT buy it or you will feel ripped off . Unlike most books to film , the film is actually better than the book in this case .

Quite badly written
I enjoyed the overall story (not sure how much I believe), but it is sooooooo wordy and quite badly written in some cases. You just need to try and overlook that to get to the interesting bits. It chops and changes a bit and then mentions people who have never been introduced before so you are not sure who they are, but it is still an interesting read. As others have said, she really, really needed a good editor to go through this, but if you can overlook all those bits, the underlying story is really good.

an amazing tale
I just finished this book, I also read volume one and I loved both! I couldn't put the books down and i didn't want them to end. The book does jump around a lot, the story is not told in the order that the events occurred and can be repetitive at times, however the story itself is an amazing tale or a family's supernatural and spiritual journey. It's a must read! What they encountered on this farm was truly extraordinary and at times utterly terrifying!! Thing that seem beyond belief (although I do believe it). The book really makes the reader question life, and reality as we know it,and question our own mortality. I cant wait for volume 3!

More thrilling than the first
As much as I enjoy this series, the author does tend to repeat phrases ALOT. Regardless I very much enjoyed this book. More than the first.
