Peanut XL Lighter Brass MARA45

I ordered this for my outdoor kit after finding the fuel in my Zippo evaporates too quickly even after trying methods to reduce the problem. First thing I noticed about this Maratac lighter is that it is heavy and has very solid feel. It appears to be machined out of a solid block of brass. The threads are precise and the cap fits tightly. There is a hole drilled on the cap to allow for the addition of a lanyard. The base is machined flat so it can be used as a candle. The cap is sealed with an o-ring, which is intended for preventing the fuel from evaporating. The lighter fires right up and uses Zippo type wicks and flints. All-in-all, it’s a great upgrade from my original Zippo (assuming the fuel doesn’t evaporate).I’ll be sure to update this review in time.UPDATE (October 2020): Thanks to the pandemic I haven’t had the chance to use this as much as I would have liked, but this gave me a chance to see if this lighter will keep fuel from evaporating. I’m happy to report that even after a few months of no use, I unscrewed the cap and it lights up with no problem. I should note that the original O-ring broke very soon after I got it. I replaced it with an O-ring from a large aluminum matchcase and it has worked fine.UPDATE (April 2022): I took this lighter out and used it today after several months of storage. I unscrewed the cap and it lit on the first strike. Still a great purchase.

There are so many "outdoor", "survival" and "waterproof " lighters out there. And if you read the reviews, most of them are a fail. This is one that is fail proof. O-ring keeps lighter fluid from evaporating. Simple. Works. Should last the rest of your life. Also available in stainless, titanium and anodized aluminum. I also have a brass "auxiliary fuel tank" that I keep with it.In my opinion, the XL is the size to get. It's not that large.

This thing is heavy duty! It is a well made tool. The tolerances are so good that when you screw down the lid you can’t see the line between the lid and base. I like that it seals when closed so fuel doesn’t evaporate. Another plus is that it fits perfectly in the side pocket of my leatherman wave holster. It lights easily. I only wish it came with extra flints/o-rings.

I give the Maratac XL Peanut five stars for ease of operation, blast proof construction, and ease of carry. One draw back is that lighter sticks to the cap when opening. Maratac might consider some internal threads around the base to prevent the entire unit coming out each time the cap is unscrewed. Other than this issue it lights each time!

Feels great in hand. The wight and size give great purchase to hold on to even in gloves.
