So far I'm pleased and no more damp smelling basement!
I purchased this unit based on the reviews and comments from purchasers here. I placed the unit in my unfinished basement in Georgia and I am very pleased with it's performance thus far. I noticed an immediate difference in the air in my basement. It automatically shuts off when the basin is full so I ended up having someone connect a hose to the unit to eliminate the need to empty the basin. It was an easy setup. The unit is slightly heavy but the average female should be able to lift it if necessary (there is no handle however). It is also on 4 wheels so it can easily be moved around. My only complaint is about the packaging. The item was not securely packaged for shipping. It was shipped in the manufactures box and the box opened on the bottom during shipping. For $200 I would have thought the seller would have taken better shipping precautions. Luckily, there was no damage nor harm done to the unit. For this reason, even though I am pleased with the product and giving it 5 stars, I'm not sure I advocate purchasing this item online from Amazon or online period because the unit is heavy and a taped manufacturers box is not secure (imo). If the unit had been damaged I would have been responsible for ensuring it is properly repackaged and shipped back....HASSLE. Just an FYI for the women out there.

Good inexpensive dehumidifier
It has really cut down on the humidity in our house. It has been an extremely rainy and damp spring here in Central Texas with relative humidity (RH) outside often hovering in the 90's%, so I bought the RCA 70 pint model to try to dry things out in the house. Our house is a little over 2000 sq ft. and this unit has been able to pull the RH down into the 50's% from the 80's% running continuously. This is a big difference in the comfort level (feels about 4 degrees cooler) and is taking a big load off our A/C. It's using between 2 and 3 dollars of electricity daily to operate 24 hrs but probably saving more than that in reduced A/C demand. It takes about 5 hours for it to fill up the 2 gallon tank under these high demand conditions which appears to be consistent with the 70 pint rating. I have not yet tried to have it drain continuously through a hose. As I got it open box unit cheap, if I get even one year of service out of it, it will have been money well spent.

I hope it lasts for 4 years much quieter than my old 70 pint dehumidifer
About the biggest bang for your buck 70 pint dehumidifier for just around 200 dollars I have just started running it today attaching the hose drain was a little pita would be easier if I smaller fingers to get a better hold of the screws to glide them into the holes. I used to run a Kenmore 70 pint dehumidifier but after 2 years it fail to run I think motor locked up then I took my mom's 70 pint Kenmore same model that one also died fairly quickly will only run for 5 min no water comes out gets hot and turns off. The RCA is much quieter than the older Kenmore model also has a lower power usage only 720 watt the prices for dehumidifier have gone up and the quality has gone down in my opinion. I hope I have a winner with this RCA dehumidifier I do like the lay out of the dehumidifier two handles built in for easier moving and the wheels on the unit move very smooth and easy on the floor. will bump up to 5 stars if it lasts for more than 4 years

Difficult to empty without spilling
It dehumidfies well enough. The reason for my lower rating is because it isn't as good as my last one (15 years old Goldstar, died in a flood). It doesn't pull the moisture as quickly but is fairly effecient. It is difficult to remove the water resevoir for emptying. My last one had a solid, heavy plastic tank in the back and a big, easy-to-use handle to pull it out. It also was enclosed except for a well-designed hole on the top in which to pour off the water. This unit's tank is just a thin plastic box, on the front, with no top/lid/covering-it's wide open. When it gets full, it is FULL to the rim. I absolutely can not remove the tank without spilling water (you have to tip the tank a little to remove it, by design, but tipping and water are not a good mix), and once removed, the tank won't sit level on the floor, so if you set it down, more water spills. You might be thinking, 'so, don't set it down'. Well, in order to pick it up, you have to reach into the tank and grab the foldable handle. Because of the awkward shape of the tank, you have to set it down first to do this. Then you can lift it and dump the water. Additionally, the tank doesn't pop back in, or slide back in to place. You have to give it a light smack on either side to get in back in place. I can't imagine the thin plastic is going to hold up for very long.Of course, if you are planning to use the self-drain feature, none of this matters. I don't have a floor drain, so I have to manually empty it. Overall, this machine suffers from very poor design by someone who didn't carefully consider how the machine would be used.

UGLY BUT GREAT AT DOING ITS JOB OF REDUCING HUMIDITY--AND VALUE PRICED!
This is a no-frills workhorse. Not particularly pretty as some other reviewers have noted. No condensate pump. Condensate tray is a bit on the difficult side to both insert and remove, as well as to empty. But it quickly--and relatively quietly, as least on the low speed fan setting--removes beaucoup water from your indoor space. Humidity cut-off on relative humidity setting switch only goes down to 35% R.H. There's also the option of leaving it on continuous run, which, if properly hooked-up to a gravity drain, would probably get the humidity way lower than 35%. While not due to RCA's design or manufacturing, the unit was clearly roughly-handled by the shipping company. Holes in the cardboard outer container, outer container damage indicating it had been dropped, etc. Squirrel cage blower wheel was a little wobbly around its axis, assuming from the shipping damage. If unit goes out during the Amazon 30-day return period from this damage, I will return it. Otherwise, it is a keeper!
