Good thick quality and superb color

Rustoleum spray paint have much to be desired as they scratch off very easily but their oil paints are second to none!! I have always used Rustoleum even buying oil base paint. They withstand the test of time and is easy to work with. Their new metallic hammered paint is awesome. It really replicates metal qualities.I painted the back side of my neighbors awning facing my yard and it completely changed the whole look!

Color (BROWN) is not as the shown "oil-rubbed bronze" (a bit darker than chocolate milk with mettalic). Still 5-stars. [Photo]

Please note the 5-star rating I gave this item - the color is still very pretty. I just painted a metal fence with it. If you notice that this review is a year or so old, send me a comment, I will tell you how it holds up in the Southern California sun. I used a 3/4-inch nap roller to put it on. Worked beautifully. I don't know why the product description on Amazon says that two coats are needed. The can does not say that. But I did that anyway. What the can does say is that a second coat may be applied withing 4 hours (but wait about 30 minutes for the surface of the first coat to feel dry) or if not within 4 hours then only after 7 days. I did two coats. The hammered finish is really tiny spots on the paint surface - not really noticeable on the railing but may be more noticeable on an area of larger flat surface. The color BROWN is much lighter than the Amazon picture shows (accurately - it's the same on the actual can). The picture shows almost an oiled-rubbed bronze (venetian bronze) color. It's not. It's like a shade or two darker than chocolate milk but with a hint of metallic in it. Especially in the sun it looks light colored. Still I like the color. However, if you are very particular about it, I suggest spot testing it before doing the whole thing to see if you like it. It only takes 30 minutes to dry to give you a very good idea of what the final color would be.UPDATE:I painted something else in the backyard with it (a metal door under a built-in gas bbq grill) and this time I took a photo of the can with some paint spilling over the label where it says "Brown" so you can see the actual difference of the colors (everyone's monitors are different so this should help to see both colors at the same time and be able to have a point of reference). The over-spilled paint is dry at the time of the photo. You will also notice the texture on the metal door. It was smooth black (with pretty "decorative" rust spots :) ) before. Note though that although I used a 1/2-inch nap roller (not a 3/4" nap this time) and there are only two coats (as recommended), it probably is still much thicker than it should have been - i.e. I should have used a smooth surface foam roller, I guess. Or a wide foam brush. Still, it looks fine in reality and I am leaving the 5-star rating. Another note - you do need to drop your perfectionist attitude for 30 minutes at a time as there is no going back "to just fix this a little bit" until it dries to touch in 30 minutes. I mean if you try a minute later to go back to where it's still wet and fix that tiny missed spot, it will be like painting with the "Liquid Nails" glue - your roller will literally get glued to it and it will start becoming a mess (ask me how I know).

Looks just like you want, expect.

You can trust Rustoleum. This was used to repurpose a patio umbrella pole and stand into a yard flag pole. It looks great I also used some to paint the rusty inside of a galvanized watering can.

Great finish, horrible cleanup

This Rust-olium paint has a beautiful finish, and is great for covering pitted surfaces, and requires no priming . It dries fast to a glossy sheen. The bad part is that it dries fast and requires xylol, which is hard to find in quart size, for clean up. It can be applied with brush or roller, but be prepared to throw your applicator away at the end of the day.

Extremely impressed

I took a risk and used this to paint several the stainless steel sink in my kitchen copper. Six weeks in and I am still very pleased. I figured at ~$15 (plus $20 for the primer) this was worth the chance over having to pay $1000+ for a new copper sink, even if it only lasts me a year. (See update at bottom to find out how it held up.)The process: First I cleaned with CLR, sanded thoroughly, and then primed with SEM stainless steel self-etching primer. Then I did two coats of this paint. I also did the faucet by turning off the water and flipping the handle up and painting everything visible, then moving the handle and painting and spots that were missed after it dried. So far there has been no chipping of any kind. At the curves of the sink there was a little puddling where the paint settles from the sides, but it is really not very noticeable and because of the hammered texture. I have not been treating sink delicately -- I leave dishes sitting in it all of the time -- and I am a little surprised that I haven't ruined it yet. I'll try and remember to update this review after some more time has passed. But so far I'm very impressed! I'm of the opinion that DIY projects shouldn't *look* like you did them yourself, and several people have told me that they would never guess that the sink was painted.A couple notes: Be careful when you're taping, because it can seep under some. You definitely need two coats, it will look awful on the first one. You have to wait 30 minutes to apply the second coat, and then you have to do it within 4 hours, so make sure you have enough time blocked out to do the whole project in one afternoon. The paint goes on thick, but gets pretty good coverage...I used a little less than half of the quart for the sink and then a few other details around the kitchen.Update 12/26/2018: This held up perfectly for the first six months! No chipping of any sort, despite the fact that I am awful at doing dishes in a timely manner and would leave things sitting around for a few days. The problems started when I forgot to do dishes and left for a week and came back to find a little mold had grown on the bottom of a bowl, which ate away at the finish enough to pull up a small amount of the paint. Around 12 months in there were a couple of other spots like that on the sink, and the very top of the handle had worn down some just from regular use and very soapy hands. The good news is touch-ups are super easy! I didn’t have any of the etching primer I used originally left, but and I didn’t bother with any extreme scrubbing/cleaning/prep this time around, but just applied the paint directly to the bare spots (two coats) and it blended in perfectly. That was maybe two months ago, and it’s still holding up! It only took a few minutes of work, so I won’t hesitate to do touch-ups in the future and I’m confident that this sink will last for however long the shelf-life of the can of paint is.

Better than I was expecting

This paint is amazing!!! I wanted a hammered finish to match a metal trellis that I had in my landscaping and it matched perfectly. The coverage and finish was exactly what I was looking for. My husband applied the paint to a pipe that was in our landscaping from the builder and he had me come and look because he was so amazed at how well it covered and how it became the hammered look, that it was described as. I highly recommend this paint. Well worth the price!
