Best Filter for Yama Siphon Coffe Maker
I had ordered the stainless filter with the coffee maker, but I wanted to tasted the difference. I used the cloth filter the first time I made coffee in the siphon. It made great coffee. However, then I cleaned the cloth filter and that decided it for me. It went on the shelf.First, the coffee tastes better with this. I get the essential oils that were trapped by the cloth so the coffee is richer and fuller tasting. This filter works great and it cleans up in about 15 seconds under the faucet. I will say that care needs to be taken with the mesh as it can get worn out over time. I would guess 6 months to 2 years or longer depending how rough you were with cleaning it. There are places on the web where you can buy stainless mesh filter material. Some sell bulk mostly, but TWP sells a 3 inch square swatch of just about any fineness for about $10. It will make at least 3 more filter screens. If you have a scientific supply house in your area that sells lab equipment you can find it there. The only downside is there is a small, call it a pinch, of sediment at the bottom of the pot. If you are careful, little or none will get in the cup as you pour out the last cup. However, coming from a French Press, this is nothing to be concerned about. This was the second stainless filter, as my first one stripped out on me because I over-tightened it, I noticed the spring is shorter and it requires more tension. The first one I purchased from Sweet Maria's as Amazon did not have it in stock.Edit: If you pull the spring so it ever so slightly over-extends, you can reduce the excess tension.

This thing should last a lifetime
I have an old all stainless steel vacuum pot that is not from Yama. It uses a cloth filter that had finally met its maker from wear and tear of repeated pots of coffee. I hunted for new filters and couldnt find anything with enough descriptive information to satisfy my desire to lay out cash. I ran across this product and saw that it had a stainless screen, some diminsions of the product and decided to compare vs my pot. It would fit so I pulled the trigger and bought it. I am deeply impressed with it. It fits, it has an ingenious design for capturing it to the pot and it has the stainless screen. I was worried I would have to put my vintage 60s vac pot to rest but this brought it a brand new life. Highly recommmended over using paper or cloth filters, it will pay for itself quite easily in savings.

A perfect accessory to my Yama pot
This is so much easier to clean than the cloth filter. I'm not sure if the coffee is any different. I've sort of convinced myself that it is better because now the oils can get through, but to be honest the coffee is fantastic with the cloth filter too! The real benefit here is in the cleanup. My only concern is that the edges of the metal filter (mesh only) get a little bent up. I think this only is an aesthetic problem and doesn't affect function. I would like to be able to order replacement mesh though. I could see wanting a new one after a year or so of use.

This filter works very well
My husband and I like this filter much better than the cloth filter that came with our coffee maker. It's much easier to clean and I think the coffee tastes better. We use a medium grind (or flat bottom if you've ever had your coffee ground at Starbucks). This gives us a robust cup and does not clog the filter.

works pretty well
I was trying to avoid sewing little cloth filters, but I may go back to doing that. This filter is ok, not great. The screen doesn't lay flat, so grounds get into the carafe. That may also be the reason the coffee tends to seep into the carafe before the brewing time is finished (i.e., before I take it off the heat). No major problems, but not ideal. I would recommend keeping it on hand for when your cloth filter gets too gross and you don't have a spare or don't have time to fit the spare.

Best way to brew coffee
I say it's the best way to brew coffee, but not only because of the flavor... also, because it's like running a high school science experiment in your own kitchen! I purchased my Yama vacuum pot second hand, in excellent condition, only it was missing the filter. I looked around, and instead of getting something to work with paper filters (yuck, they absorb the oils from the coffee and mess with the flavor!), I just had to try this screen filter. It works beautifully!

Much better than the cloth filter
This is infinitely better than the cloth filter. Unlike the cloth, this filter cleans quickly and easily.I've used mine for months now and the only thing I see that could maybe be an issue is the edges of the filter to start to deform a bit. I don't think this is an issue that would hurt the effectiveness, but I can see how the day will come where it should probably be replaced.

Simplifies life
It beats dealing with the cloth filter between brewings, but it lets a few more fines through. Nevertheless, I hold that the all-glass vacuum method is the BEST way to brew a great cup of coffee.
