Story not what was expected.
Story different than expected. Still a good read for the young grandkids.

Simplistic Story, Kids Like It, Use at Home or School Use
Great for teaching the “bare bones” elements of a story to younger children. It has three characters, a limited setting and a clear-cut, beginning middle and end. It’s also a good example to show a narrative that teaches a lesson. It’s simply told, but entertaining and the illustrations support the text in keeping kids’ interest. The little girls actions are exaggerated enough to make her negative character traits, story problem, the lesson that she learned/resolution easily identifiable for kids. It’s a good story for simple read aloud as well. I have other books from the author.

Unreadable due to delivery
Love Patricia Polacco and the Betty Doll story. The problem I had was when the book was delivered, it was rolled and shoved in our mailbox. Don’t know whether it’s the mail carrier’s fault or the sender for not marking the package. In either case the book is ruined.

Not Exactly a "Doll" of a Doll
I give high praise for Polacco as an illustrator and writer, but this story may be a little abstract for younger readers at the primary-grade level. Of course, under a teacher or other adult, the author's "object lesson" (objective, "point") may be understood.Whether or not the listener/reader can really take to heart the message of this tale about being self-centered--the need for patience, consideration and respect for others--can only be hoped for. I'm not sure this is a tale that children will want to hear over and over.(Other books by this author certainly do qualify as re-reads!) Clever Story!
A very clever story about not being selfish when a little girl gets a taste of her own medicine. It made me laugh at what the author did and I’m sure will teach many children a good lesson. It does seem like it would be over younger audience’s heads. Perhaps more suitable for early to middle elementary school.

Maybe only cI who can review this brutally with one star
Reason: Giving life to a doll can be panic to some children. Specifically if they love doll. There could be better story or end. But I diregarded with all 5 star. Not worthy for my home.

Cute story. A little lesson goes with it
My daughter brought this book home often from the library at school. Loved it then and now I can share the story with my Grandchildren. They love it too.

What a doll
My students enjoyed the story and it served as a starting point for talking about good and bad behaviour and throwing tantrums (I work with pre-schoolers). I recommand this book.
