Excellent cutter!
This is a great product for cutting large amounts of paper or making edges of handmade books flush in a small amount of time~ I worked in a print shop for 3 years, so I do have background knowledge about using industrial cutters like this and I love this cutter! It's very accurate when you line up your paper and stack it just right. Any slight off cuts or inaccuracy I got was due to human error or improper jogging of the paper, but once I lined up and tried again, the cut was straight every time. I was always taught in the printing business to put a scrap piece of paper/cardstock on top and bottom of your stack so when you cut, any frayed edges or possible grease residue (if any) are left on the scrap pieces and your stack is left flush and clean. This is still a heavy piece, especially near the front of where the blade is so be very careful when lifting. Other than that, I would recommend this to anyone doing home business work, crafting handmade books, or for cutting thick study guide books for college courses, etc.

Please Read This!
Because this paper cutter had decent reviews I took a chance on it. When it arrived it would not cut. I am not mechanically inclined, so even though they included many troubleshooting ideas, I wasn’t about to mess with it. It didn’t work like other buyers had stated in their reviews and I knew there was something wrong. It would not even cut 5 sheets of paper (let alone 400!!) Also, it appeared used and repackaged. There were paper scraps, as if someone had cut paper with it. I’m thinking maybe it was returned, and Amazon put it back on the shelf and it was sent out again inadvertently. (I hope it wasn’t deliberate!) So I returned it, which was a big pain in the butt because it weighs a ton. And because of this experience I almost gave up on this cutter. But on a whim, I ordered another one and it did everything the reviews said. It cuts through just about anything, even a pile of cardboard! And it cuts like butter. I am so glad that I didn’t throw in the towel and took a chance by ordering a replacement. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Solid cutter for basic work
Pretty solid. It's heavily built and has very little wobble in the parts. I bought it for book-binding; to cut perfect-bound books. I'm a fairly large guy, so it may be a little bit harder to get this to cut through a full 400 sheets of paper like it claims if you're a smaller person, but it takes very little effort whatsoever to cut through a big stack to begin with and I doubt most people will have a problem. It's also about 3-4 times faster than cutting things by hand, even for the same amount of paper. I can cut about 3 1/2 books with this in the time it used to take me to do 1 when cutting the edges with a knife. By far, the cost is more than justifiable in the time you save with this thing. The paper guide that comes built in is more of a nuisance than a help in my opinion because of how tightly it's attached to the slider bar, but it's easily removable with a single screw. I found it easier to cut myself a wooden L-shaped block on a table saw that I just hold behind the paper to get it in place and then place my hand on the paper while cutting. This is probably more related to my specific use of the cutter than anything else, so I wouldn't classify it as a major design flaw. The only significant downside to this cutter is it's lack of accuracy. This is not a fine-cut tool, and I would not even begin to suggest you use it for anything like photo matting, where pinpoint accuracy and perfect 90 degree angles are a necessity. It cuts straight and cleanly, but there's a distinct margin of error for about 1/32", even with practice, and on larger stacks of paper it has a tendency for the blade to want to wander a bit off of straight down, leaving you with a stack that's up to 1/8" difference in sheet length from top to bottom. You can mitigate that with a bit of practice, but this isn't meant to be the most precise of tools.

Great paper cutter!!
I have been struggling with digitizing my books for the past year. It has been a very tedious process pulling all the pages out by hand from the bindings, trimming 10 pages at a time at the most in a typical paper cutter, and then having difficulty scanning because of the often irregular sizes of the pages. I bought this paper cutter in the hopes that I could get more than one book per day finished. This is a wonderful device, and it has totally solved my digitizing problem. It slices the bindings right off of hardbound and paperback books so easily, and because the pages are uniform in size, scanning is a breeze. The only drawback with the paper cutter is that with thick soft bound books there can be some shifting of the pages as the blade comes down resulting in uneven cutting at times. However, this is not generally a big problem. The one complaint that I have is that there are virtually no instructions which accompany this paper cutter.. I did not understand exactly how it worked when I first got it so it was frustrating initially getting it set up. I did e-mail the company directly with a question, however, and they did respond right away. So, it you are used to usual paper cutters, this one may take a little getting used to. Also, make sure you have the box oriented according to the picture on the box when you unpack it. It is very heavy, and the weight is unbalanced towards the side with the blade. All that aside, I am extremely pleased with the way it works..

I absolutely LOVE my paper cutter! It arrived super fast and can cut through the books I'm digitizing with ease! I know it says a max of 400 sheets but I've cut through many more than that depending on the thickness of the pages and had NO issues at all. I can't believe I waited so long to get this! I manually cut a bunch of books to digitize them for my private collection and it took ages. I got this and polished off a big box of books in about 20 minutes! I highly recommend this cutter to anyone who needs to cut many sheets of paper at the same time! It will pay for itself within the first few uses in the time saved!
