stila Color Balm Lipstick

GORGEOUS. So, background: I work at a popular brick and mortar beauty store and have access to a lot of the big high-end makeup brands. Most of the employees wear stila, because it lasts a LONG time and provides great pigmentation. I bought this color balm in Ruby because the price was knocked down to around ten bucks, on Amazon, so finally I could afford to grab one for myself. I've worn it a few times, and here's what I have, so far:PROS:1. Lasts all day. Seriously. The beautiful thing about this balm is that it provides great coverage and beautiful pigmentation all day long, since it provides some moisture to your lips--that means less flaking and less discomfort (I know I mush my lips together when they start feeling dry, which just removes all the lipstick).2. BEAUTIFUL pigmentation. With a balm, you might expect it to be a bit sheer, but this Ruby shade is RED. It means business.3. Not very shiny. Matte is in, and this balm doesn't have much shine at all to it.4. AWESOME smell--if you like peppermint.5. Easy to remove--not a super thick formula, and very smooth, so it comes off easily when you're ready to remove it.6. Nice packaging, very sleek.CONS:1. THE SHAPE OF THE TUBE. If you have a crazy sharp cupid's bow like I do, applying this stuff is going to suck. It doesn't have a pointed tip like regular lipstick (and if it did, it would probably mush into a glob in no time, so I'm glad for that), so tracing this balm around edges is a bit tricky. Not bad, especially if you line your lips, but it is annoying and worth mentioning.2. If you don't like peppermint, the smell and taste of this balm is a con.3. A bit easy to smear. If you aren't careful and mush your lips together without thinking, this balm will go everywhere.Generally, I'd highly recommend this lipstick--and the shade Ruby is a very cute, basic red! Feels amazing on, smooth moisturizing with a little bit of tingle from the mint. No funny taste and no cake, heavy or sticky feel at all. Color has staying power and this particular color is so soft and natural looking. Almost nude with a little deeper pink to it, but soft pink not bright at all. This particular shade is nicely muted and natural on me and I am fair skinned (Irish and freckles), blue eyed with brown hair.I apply with a lipstick brush and work it into my lips for a gorgeous soft natural look. I don't like a heavy lipstick and even if I put this on directly without the brush I think it would still feel light and moisturizing.I also bought the Ellie color and I was anticipating a very soft natural pink, but it was far more bubblegum pink. So the pictures on line do tend to be far more muted than what actually arrives. That being said that color applied very lightly with a brush also worked very nicely on me and I could pull it off for a soft, light day time, bit brighter look. It actually looks stunning on my daughter that has light but not fair skin and her skin undertones are not pink like mine. These are pigment rich lipsticks so the color in the stick is much more intense and when put on the colors are more transparent and soft with clean, clear color and finish. A little goes a long way which is a good thing considering the price. But I would and am buying these again as I feel the price is justified to have the soft balmy feel and staying power of great color.

I wanted something in my color range that I could wear around the house to help protect my dry lips. This serves that purpose but from some of the reviews, I foolishly thought this would work as a lipstick for me. It doesn't but it does work as a "chapstick with color." It lasts longer thananother product I tried that had honey in it and it feels nice on. It doesn't stay on for very long, unfortunately, and I do need to reapply it many times throughout the day.I am currently looking for a new lipstick in a brighter coral/orange shade, and haven't been very successful but as I write this review, I wonder if my if I put on my regular lipstick and just put this color over it, it would solve my problem. If it works, I shall return and change my rating to 5 stars.I have white hair. Prescriptives said I had a yellow undertone to my skin although a girl at another well-known lipstick counter said I had some pink in my skin, as well. I have always worn lipsticks in the above-mentioned color group and I bought this lip balm in Maya. It arrived very quickly and I do like it.

I'm a red lipstick connoisseur and I'm always on the lookout for a color that doesn't look too garish and harsh while still delivering the impact you want from red lips. I tried stila all day liquid lipstick and I despise it (smells, looks and feels like paint, unflattering, wears terribly, etc.) so I was a bit nervous about this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It has a nice texture and a flattering color that looks pretty against my skin (I have light/medium skin with yellow undertones). I blot it and it becomes a nice stain that wears well. My only complaint is that the head on this balm is huge and makes it somewhat tricky to apply (my lips aren't small so unless you have super plump lips, you might run into the same issue). I wouldn't use it as a "balm" if my lips were super dry. Red is the most drying color anyway, so stick to something more nourishing for that.

This is not sheer. It is very bright pink, almost fluorescent. I like pink but need to mix with other light color. It is not as peppermint as the other line.

I bit pricey, but it feels silky and gorgeous. It has a mirror in the cap.. why don't all lipsticks do that? genious! . I wish it stayed on my lips longer, but it's like every other lipstick were hourly application seems necessary.
