Good affordable modern 480i scan converter
I got this little box over an Extron to save some space and money. Been using it with my Steam Deck to play modern retro games (e.g. Sonic Mania, TMNT:SR, etc.) and am pleased with the results. Very satisfied with the image and resolutions this little box can make. Works great with modern PCs if you keep its (and analog displays) limitations in mind: - 1280x960 is a great resolution to use with this. It will make the text a little hard to read on a desktop but the even 2x 480i scaling will ensure the image looks crisp and even (especially for retro games and DVD/VHS rips). Plus everything will fit on the display in a desktop setting. - Very minimal added input lag based on playing a few games. - As mentioned by another poster it comes in PAL mode. I just pressed "down" then "left" until the signal started to change, then continued pressing left until it got into NTSC M mode once the correct setting was selected. - Aluminum passively cooled case and only uses 5 watts of power, so its good to keep plugged in all the time

Great Converter After Quick Fix (GUIDE)
This is a great quality scan converter for the price! HOWEVER: the default setting is PAL. PAL does not work on US CRTs. So when you plug it in, the picture looks broken - but it's not. You just have to change the setting blind. Here's a guide how to fix : "Menu Button"-> SLOWLY (it lags a bit) press the "down arrow" 6 times-> click the "left" arrow up to 5 times to change the setting until you get a picture. (There are 5 NTSC/PAL settings.) IMPORTANT: The menu cursor is saved at the location you last had it. So, if 6 downs doesn't work, you may need to cycle through each setting. That means: "Down Arrow" > wait > Left a 5 times > repeat. Other than that - the picture quality is very good. It has minimal flicker, and loads of helpful effects. This is a powerful little unit! It's also sturdy as heck, being fully metal. But, being fully metal it gets hot. Place it somewhere cool if possible. Haven't had it overheat though. NOTE: If you have a Panasonic WJ-MX30 / WJ MX50 / WJ-MX10 / WJ-MX10 mixer this scan converter will *NOT* fix the chroma loss from digital signal issue. If you show luckily found this review - just buy an Extron VSC - it will work.

Serves it's purpose, but definitely low-res
I needed this to integrate my iphone to my built in Nav. Sort or a poor man's Apple Car Play. It works, but the VGA signal is low-resolution for sure. I do like that it has a lot of adjustment buttons, but you need to be careful when you tuck it away so theat they do not get bumped when driving. I was able to get it to completely fill the screen in my 2010 Lexus HS250H.

Defective Unit, Sent Back
The unit would reset any time the power cord was disturbed. It also wasn't receiving any signal from the VGA cable.

Unreliable. Hue function does not work.
This unit looked promising at first but after a few minutes the color tint began drifting and eventually went black and white. I had to restart it to get it back to normal, but it did it again. Also, the HUE function in the menu DOES NOT WORK. It is stuck at 50. This means you have to adjust the hue/tint on your display, which is inconvenient if you already have it set for other video sources. Unfortunately, it seems no one produces something like this that just works the way it should.

Worked without any issues
Worked as described. Video and audio out is good.

Great value and exceptional quality - well worth the purchase!
If you need a rock-solid unit to expand your view-ability then look no further. I use this as a karaoke KJ to run both a singer and audience screens. I am very pleased with the results. The metal case is just what you want for durability. Quality is well above similar units. Be sure to power the unit BEFORE you plug in any video as the directions state.

Passable Footage if Desperate
(used a Win98 computer on a CRT TV; may have different experiences with different setups) If you're expecting to get a clean, clear image especially on a period CRT with S-video then there are probably better methods then this. I noticed a lot of video noise (much more then just using my video cards S Video out) and while it is decently sharp for what it is, the price just doesn't justify it for myself. If there's no other choice I'm sure this may work but I was very dissapointed.

This VGA to composite converter gave me better results than I was expecting. It did power up in pal mode which gave a black and white picture initially. Once I switched to NTSC mode the picture quality was good. The menu was quite intuitive and allowed for easy adjustment. The picture quality was of course not as sharp as a normal vga monitor but was still better than anticipated. Other commenters that only got a black and white picture may have had difficulty making changes in the menu. For me there was no problem.

Unfortunately this converter also has out of spec color signal, because when recording on VHS recorder (more than one) produces black & white picture. So this is useless.

I managed to ‘fry’ an expensive little box in a college TV studio with an incompatible psu. After searching for a replacement my heart sank at the price....£700ish. I thought this was worth a punt... it worked fine and actually has an extra underscan feature that helped me. I didn’t need to enter any menus etc so can’t comment on those.
