BG Electrical 8BTM/1 Single Telephone Socket Master Screw Type - White

Really love this but if kit. Really nice, quality product. I had been considering what I could do to reduce my use of Alexa/Wi-Fi plugs in some areas of the house, as I’ve been using them a lot for various home automation and equipment setup recently. I wanted to tidy things up a bit where possible and reduce any plugs hanging out of the sockets and this looked like a great solution - and it’s been perfect for the job! I was a bit skeptical at first due to the very reasonable price in comparison to a single Wi-Fi plug, but having opened the box I found this to be a quality brand and product, being well made and thought out. Being a British company I was reassured at the note about being GDPR compliant with my data, as some Wi-Fi products like these sockets which you add your Wi-Fi network password to can send data all over the world and come with little or no information on this. Additionally I was equally impressed with the app (BG Home) which is well layed out, user friendly and intuitive to use. Fitting the socket was a straight forward affair and as soon as you turn on the power the sockets go into setup mode and the switches start to flash and are then easily locatable within the app for you to set up. You can then give the socket a master name and then each individual socket can also be named separately too. Then you simply add the Alexa skill it is instantly recognisable for you to use voice commands to turn on and off. Connectivity can be an issue with these types of product, I’ve experienced problems in the past with the connection dropping out before, but having added 2 sets of sockets now to my network I’ve had no issues, nor when I’ve reset the modem, or reset the power, they have both seemed to have rejoined the network without any manual intervention which I’ve had to do with some plugs in the past, so top marks to BG for this. As I mentioned above I bought a second socket as I was so impressed with the first one, and I have been using them reliably for a couple of weeks now. They look much nicer than having Wi-Fi plugs poking out every socket, given you a little more space if your plug is behind furniture for example. You also have the option of using the manual, single push switches to turn them on and off, or you can use a voice command or it’s controllable via the app, so no problems for the boomers in the family or visitors who get confused by giving voice commands - they can bend down and press them on and off just like they are used to. The low blue glow of the switches looks neat as well when they are switched on. They work just as as well as the Wi-Fi plugs without the clutter - Highly recommended!

I just stalled the sokect in the living room and the door ring outside. I don't have to be worried about anything. It rings loud and have different tones.Very good product.

I like these BG sockets. I have installed fifteen of them in my house now, and they have made a big difference to my Smart Home.INSTALLATION.Fitting is easy. They aren't any deeper than a conventional twin socket, and I like the terminal size and access, which accepts two or three cables without any bother (even an old imperial 7/.044 cooker cable). They look sleek too: a definite improvement over the previous sockets that they replaced. In some cases, I fitted a finger-plate behind them to improve the look even further, and it allowed me to stick Dymo labels on, in case I forget what I named them!!CONNECTING.Connecting the sockets to wifi is fairly easy: just set up the wifi codes, name your sockets and that's about it. My sockets are integrated into Alexa, and they are programmed both through the built-in timer function (useful) and Alexa routines.DOWNSIDE.There are two issues that affect the sockets in my house. First was that I regularly lost wifi to the left twin socket in the photo. I realised that it was due to my all-metal food slicer (right socket in the photo) and Breadmaker (left socket) obstructing the signal. This was overcome by moving a BG wifi extender socket onto the same wall. This now gives me a very reliable signal.The second issue is that if I have a glitch in the wifi signal, due to a power cut or a thunderstorm, most of the sockets lose their memory and have to be re-programmed, which takes hours and is a pain to do. Also, any routines that they are programmed into will have to be updated all over again (painful, but that's Alexa's fault, not BG's). If the power or wifi is lost, the sockets randomly turn on and off, which is an issue that BG need to address, as it is a potential safety issue, as well as an annoyance.SUMMARY.The price for these sockets is excellent. Great value. I definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about going to a Smart Home. Look into installing a BG wifi extender, too, as this should overcome any drop-out of your wifi signal, and be aware of the consequences of power or wifi issues.

Purchased to replace a standard wall socket. Arrived in good time, fitted exactly, and works perfectly.

good product, easy installation, fair valuation.

The device itself is good but the app isn’t functioning as well as it used to. The set function light doesn’t save state so having the light red for off or off for off no longer saves state.

This item is of good quality, and made to be safe. Easy to connect and able to take large cables, which is to be expected as it is rated to 45A. Minus one star because the fixing screws were missing from the sealed packet. These are easy available in UK but maybe not in Europe. It looks as if it's made in Spain; glad it's not China.
