Will this hold a heavy octobox about 5lbs in weight?

Hi Katie, I personally use the stand with a PixaPro 150cm softbox and PP Citi 600 strobe and have no problems. I also use a sandbag on the long leg to counter balance the weight esspecially if using the boom arm. Its a solid and weighty bit of kit that I'm very happy with. Hope this helps. Regards Malcolm

Can anyone tell me how wide the legs are, so their 'footprint' so to speak

Each, leg 1 about 40cm leg 2 about 45cm leg 3 about 50cm all from centre going out, its heavy!!.. broncolor Siros 800 L and Elinchrom rotalux deep octagon 100cm handless no problem in doors looking forward to warmer weather than I can take it out.

Think these are better than impact Matthews or kupo stands?

The main thing is that the Neeweer C-stand does exactly what you need it to do, very well and at a great price. It is well built, sturdy and has a quality feel.

Will this hold an dslr with a heavy lens

It would probably hold the family car as well! It is a substantial bit of kit. It's the brackets that you will need to look out for and it all depends on your definition of a "heavy" lens. I mostly used the 'C' stand for my softbox, one of those big hexadeca things. My heaviest camera was a Canon 5D Mk3 and the lenses I used were Canon too. Both L (pro series) 24-70mm and 16-35mm. They are pretty chunky things. I used to get the brackets, grips, mounts and rods that I used to mount them from Small Rig. Don't forget to get a sandbag to hang over one of the feet, (available from gym equipment suppliers). Something in the order of 5-10 Kg. Looking down on the thing from overhead the 3 feet should end up looking like a Mercedes star. One of them needs to be aligned under the Boom Arm and the other two at equal angles from the one under the boom. The one under the boom is the one you will hang the sandbag over. When you see the 'C' stand and feel the weight of it you will develop confidence in it. I never had anything fall over that wasn't knocked over by people. Good luck with it all.
