Failed in less than 10 miles of driving.
I bought this to replace the factory front drive shaft in my wife's '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep has the 5.2L V8 and the QuadraTrac NP249 transfer case. It is not lifted at all and my wife is the original owner. It doesn't get driven often and so the splined slip joint in the factory original front driveshaft siezed up.This drive shaft has a different design from the factory shaft. The slip joint with splines is located inside the CV boot where it stays lubricated and protected. That seems like a good thing given what happened to the factory drive shaft. Unfortunately, it also seems like this design difference is a weak point because the boot needs to stretch and compress a lot more with suspension travel than the factory boot. When I installed the shaft, I noticed the boot was somewhat stretched in it's normal position, enough that it pulled the two sides of the shaft together making the install more difficult. After driving it about 6 miles in the city, I started to hear a rattling noise, I looked underneath and saw that the boot pulled away from the front CV joint and slung grease all over the bottom of the Jeep. It seems like either the shaft is too short, the boot is too short, or the boot is too stiff. It's also possible that the boot clamp wasn't installed in the correct position on the shaft, but I can't tell. Regardless, it's going back.Edit December 1, 2020: After I removed this shaft, I could tell that the problem is that the shaft is too short for my Jeep. I would guess between 1 and 2 inches too short. Remember that my '96 Grand Cherokee has a 5.2L V8, automatic transmission, and NP249 transfer case. It's totally stock and my wife is the original owner. That means this shaft DOES NOT fit "1996-1997 JEEP Grand Cherokee, V8 5.2L, A.T. 249 Transfer Case" as stated in the title and description.

This does not fit 1997 Grand Cherokee 5.2l 249tc, cv joint doesn’t fit diff yoke, it is to short should be 29 5/8. I got it to go on. Balancing was spot on. One day latter I was backing up a hill and the cv joint popped off the shaft was Stuck had to remove shaft to get home. Do not recommend for 1997 Cherokee 5.2l 249tc
