Original Velux Twin Size
I bought this for my granddaughter to use on her bed. She was recently diagnosed with dust mite allergy, and because I also have that allergy, I already knew this would be a great product for her. Soft, washes well on HOT water on a regular basis (which is important when it's dust mite season!). Dries well in the dryer, doesn't take as long to dry as other fabric types. I expect it to last several years, as Velux typically does last a long time. Only wish we could get it in a purple color!

Voluminous First Wash Shedding
The blanket seems multi-seasonal, but we'll see for sure next summer. It is stiffer than expected, but, in retrospect, that feature is detectible in its pictures. Hence, the blanket tends to slide around over on the underlying sheet. I'm guessing the shedding will be a forever thing due to the large quantity in the first wash. There has been no pilling, and that seems unlikely because the shedding was tiny hair-like. The main quality of all seasonality and price makes it a long-term useful product for me, despite the limitations.

It is of quality
It is not as soft as other vellux blankets I have had in the past. It will work for spare bedroom but will not be my favorite blanket to put on my bed! Quality and sizing are fine.

Very warm blanket and lightweight -- but prickly
I really hope this blanket softens as the included instructions say it will. I love the weight, the warmth and how well it washed the first time (didn't baby it, just threw it in the washer on cold delicate and in the dryer on permanent press like the rest of my stuff) and it dried smooth and intact. The reservation I have is this blanket feels prickly to me, as if someone sprayed velvet fabric with a stiffener. I have some sensory issues, but it's definitely not a pleasant texture. When the blanket touches me or I press down I can feel the nap of the fabric, almost as if it's crunchy. Very disconcerting. I will hope it softens up since it's such a good insulating layer without weight. For now it's between the sheet and a top velour blanket, and I keep it tucked low so it doesn't touch my arms or neck because it will wake me right up and have me scratching like I just brushed through nettles. As others have mentioned, I had a Vellux blanket as a child and it was much, much softer to the touch than this one. I will keep this since I don't want to hassle with a return, but here's hoping it softens up. If you're looking for a minky or velour texture, this isn't it right out of the box. Be warned: If you have a pet, don't make this your top cover unless you want to devote your leisure hours to lint rolling. Impressive static light show in the dark. All in all I'm kinda meh on this one. If you're just looking for lightweight warmth as an inner layer it's great, but not for cuddling up in.

WARNING: Wash six times before using!
I bought this to replace a vellux blanket that I'd used and loved for 40 years and that had finally given up its ghost. When it arrived I grabbed it out of the bag to enjoy its softness and instead felt my hands covered with some oily smelling substance. Very nasty! Otherwise it looked like what I wanted and I decided to keep it and wash it until the smell and substance were gone. After each wash I would spread it out in my guest bedroom to let it air and see if it seemed non toxic. As I walked by that room I could smell the odor from the hall and knew it needed another wash. The oily feel was gone after the first wash but the smell took much longer to suppress. With each wash it steadily improved but I was not willing to put it on my bed until I had washed it six times. Now I'm sleeping under it and it's everything I wanted: soft, light, warm, comfortable. But, what have they done! My first Vellux blanket from 40 years ago was not a toxic nightmare on arrival, but this one was. Hopefully this one will last me to my grave and I won't need to contemplate buying another.

My favourite soft, cozy & breathable blanket
Like others have mentioned, there was some sort of coating on the blanket (from production?), but a quick wash took care of that.Cozy, lightweight, breathable (even in warmer weather) & easy to care for (wash instructions on tag).Would love to see some soft but brighter/more cheery colours offered such as soft but vibrant pink, a soft but vibrant coral pink, a soft but vibrant butter yellow, a soft but vibrant cornflower blue (ya get the picture...) To add a fun bit of colour to a room.A favourite blanket that I hope never ceases to be made.I have one & purchased a navy coloured one for my adult son. He likes the Vellux original blanket as much as I do!

Beautiful and soft but that's where it ends
This is my second purchase of this type of blanket in a three-week period. The first was from another supplier and had to be returned because it had tiny bald spots. This one arrived in perfect condition, gorgeous colour, nice and soft. After one washing, it ripped in the middle. It was on my sofa! There has to be a hidden flaw in these things! Vellux was once an American product that lasted for ages, but I guess manufacturing in China has affected the quality. I am very sorry to have to return it because I loved it, but it's not the cheapest blanket, so I am not willing to compromise on the quality. Back it goes!Update: As I was packing it up I discovered a small bald patch. Definitely a quality problem. So unfortunate.

Comfortable Blanket
I've used a Vellux blanket for many years during the cooler months (autumn, winter, spring) to keep my body at an acceptable temperature without overheating (which would otherwise wake me up). The blanket is comfortable and lightweight. The only downside is that our house cats also love the Vellux blanket and tend to pick at it with their claws. They eventually shredded my old Vellux blanket. Thus, I have ordered this new one and will make sure to keep the cats away from it.

My Favorite Winter Blanket
My Mom bought me a version of this about 25 years ago, as she had one and raved about it. My blanket finally had it, and I was pleased to replace with the same brand and blanket so many years later. It is extremely warm and very light weight, which my wife likes, and she has pretty much hijacked my blanket. Anticipating this move, I bought two, lol. I find it too hot for summer however.
