Death In Paradise - Series 1-5 [DVD] [2016]

I was given this for my birthday, and at first I was unsure because I'd only ever seen Ben Mitchell and Kris Marshal in minor rolls that I didn't particularly like them in, but they really surprised me, one person who helped make this series so good is Danny John-Joules (Cat, Red Dwarf) he's so funny as officer Dwayne Myers, also features Sara Martin's, Tobi Bakore, Gary Carr (Downton abbey) Josephine Jobert and not forgetting Don Warrington (Rising Damp) A Fantastic team solving crimes at the Honore police station on the fictional island of St Marie In the Carribbean, (Actually filmed on Guadalupe) the teams first chief is the very quirky DI Richard Poole, he's got his own methods but is exceptionally good at what he does, upon his death DI Humphrey Goodman comes to help them find out how and why Richard died, Humphrey comes with fun little quirks of his own not least of all his own clumsiness hilarious on more than one occasion, a delightful series not to be missed by any cozy crime fans! Enjoy!!

Bought this as a gift for my dad who likes detective dramas but positively abhors gratuitous sex, violence and bad language... this hit the spot and all 40-odd episodes have been watched!Not high drama - but a pleasant, unchallenging way to spend an hour.

The first two seasons actually contain a few puzzles. As the writers multiply, the stories become increasingly formulaic. If you've never been to the Caribbean, yes, it is that lovely. Most of the "regular" actors are quite good; some of the lesser roles are clearly fill-ins. The "teasers" at the episodes' ends are less than fascinating. The "intros" at the beginnings are excessively predictable of both the victim and the perpetrators. The CGI lizard may be the best character.

Saw a couple of these on the TV so treated myself to the whole series (including series 6). I have not been disappointed, it is a fantastic series and I love the fact that you do not have to wait several weeks to see what happens. I can't stand serials, much better to see the conclusion in each episode.

It is not hard to understand why this series is so popular. Despite the serious subject matter the lighthearted scripts, the beautiful scenery and the delightful characters make for excellent entertainment. The solving of the crimes always includes some unexpected twists and turns, and while the formulaic plots do stretch the imagination from time to time the feel-good effect is always there.

Bought for my mum as something to binge watch. Good price for a box set and she loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It's a murder mystery combined with a comic twist sort of like the US Mentalist series. Also it's filmed on location which is a nice surprise. Good thing they made up the island name since having a weekly murder would be bad for the tourist industry!
